AKG K812 Pro - Page 12

Mine are in and measured. I'll break them in for a while and measure again. Kinda tizzy; doesn't resolve as well as the 800.

Beauty build though, nice to see AKG doing something new and interesting.

I'll have to review them because they're important, but not sure they're really there for this price.

'Course not much is, in my view. Stuff better be damned good when it's this expensive.

guess I'll stick with my hd800s then... awaiting for the full review Tyll. Please compare them with the HD800s as well, considering they are aimed at the same audience.

We could have different tastes... But if you say that they dont measure and sound as technically great as HD800, its all quite clear.

I hope you take into consideration the treble boost of the HD-800. ;)

I definitely take your continuous hate towards Sennheiser headphones into consideration. ;)

I dont understand why people expect K812 sounds and measure like HD800? I also dont understand TIZZY, realy, it sounds very scornful, at least thats how I feel.

I recently spent a boat load of time with the HD800 while reviewing the Lehmann Audio Linear USB.  Review will be on Audio360.org very soon.  I will use the K812 with the Linear USB as well.  Should be fun.

Jude, your photos are amazing.  Can I come up to your studio for some lessons? :)

There are many tizzy sounding high end headphones... There should be no surprise if the AKG happens to be one of them, because they're in abundance.

Well, that's... rather more underwhelming than I expected. Still looking forward your review.

But I have a feeling that this thread will be locked just like other K812 threads even before Tyll's review is up.

Hopefully they'll go down in price after Tyll's review.

It seems I'm far more impressed by the AKG K812 so far than Tyll is. So far, though, all I've had handy to use it with are my iPhone 5S, and a Meridian Explorer (with a MacBook Air).

Immediately after photographing it at the office, I had to run, and have only had my iPhone and Explorer with me to use with it since. The first time I tried it was directly out of the iPhone--I figured that wouldn't be worthwhile, but it was all I had. Surprise! I have to go back through my other headphones that impress directly out of the iPhone, but, at the moment, I can't think of anything better. It's rather surprising how much resolution comes from the K812 straight out of my phone's headphone output.

Via the Explorer, it's better.

I haven't heard the "tizzy" sound Tyll mentioned. That said, the K812 is not a forgiving headphone. I won't comment about how resolving I feel it is vis-à-vis the HD 800, as I don't have that with me now (but will soon). That said, the K812 is, to my ears, capable of very high resolution.

Based on what I'm hearing from the K812 with an iPhone 5S and an Explorer, I'm dying to try some of my better desktop rigs with it, which I'll be able to start doing soon. I think its relatively low impedance and relatively high sensitivity will give me some interesting flexibility, in terms of its use with different rig setups.

I'll have the CEntrance HiFi-M8 with me later tonight, so that'll be up next for the K812. (I'm limited to more portable stuff for the next couple of days.)

It's way too early for me to say more than I've said in this post already, but it seems with my first impressions that I'm far more impressed with the AKG K812 than Tyll is. We agree on a lot of headphones, disagree on some--as with any two people here, that happens. But I thought I'd throw my early one cent in for now.

Great photos Jude!

Is it just me, or does that cable look a little "mid/average-fi" ish?

It feels worse than most mid fi cable to be fair.
