The review missed the other 1.5 Tesla headphone, the TH900 (which plays in a different league, the "fun" headphone category). The highlighted use case (reference headphone for recording industry) is pretty accurate: for that purpose I'd also likely choose the 812 over the HD800.

The hype trains are huge for both these and the LCD-X.  How do they really compare to each other?

For those who own both - would you agrre with what Steve said here:

"The Audeze LCD X headphones have a warmer and richer tonal balance than the K812s; the LCD-X's sound has more weight to it. The K812s' sound is livelier, so subtle dynamic shadings and every cymbal shimmer sounds a little different from the next. The vocals on Robert Plant & Alison Krauss' "Raising Sand" CD sound more natural on the K812s, and I was more aware of their breathing and vocal phrasing. The LCD X was less immediate and present. It's a close contest, and I'm sure some listeners will prefer the LCD X for its fuller tone, but I love the K812's clarity and wide-open sound."

I can't comment on the LCX, however I did own the LCD 3 for a time. I think what Steve has said mirrors what so many actual owners on this thread have stated many times, the K812 is a very fine set of cans.

First thing i noticed that the locking mechanism on the left side just dont locking.

But this is nothin compare to what i found next.

when i plugged them There is distortion in the right ear , i hear it very clear especeally when i hear some calm songs.

And this happened to 1500$ headphones..
sorry bad english
AKG really needs to get a handle on the quality control issues with these phones. I hope somebody here in the community who has a good contact with the company can alert them to what appears to be very uneven production values, there is really no excuse for this.

I had both for roughly one week and for me the K812 is better than LCD-X for sure. More details, better mids and treble as well and the K812 is the first AKG I heard with bass.

I haven't heard the K812 but i don't think more bass means it's beatsified, that's stretching it a little bit, imo.

I found most AKGs to have plenty of bass and bass impact as long as they have the right synergy, I've only heard a couple AKGs I thought had almost no bass. Then some AKGs are more on the bassier side such as the K712. What AKGs have you heard outside the K812?

The K812 definently is not a boomy headphone. It sounds full and deep, and very natural. Best I have heard from any phones I have had, including the LCD3 or the HD800.

Sounds good. Having bought the Hifiman He-500 recently i definitely can wait for new HP, but i know the K812 will be at least auditioned in the future.

The bass of the K812 is very spot on (Not too much and definitely not too little).

I LOVE the sound OF AKG'S K812!

THE biggest DISADVANTAGE is the Weight of 400 Gramm FOR a flagship ARROUND 1500 euros in the Year 2014!

But the CHANGE will come in the Future!

So open your eyes and Check Out!
