Good closed headphones/headsets for gaming

Hi there!

This is my first time buying a good pair of headphones. I currently use Microsoft LifeChat LX 3000, and while it has served my purposes I want to make the move away from USB and have the money to spend on a good pair of headphones. I'm primarily looking for something that's really good for competitive PC gaming. I am looking for one that is closed and doesn't require an AMP, as I share a room with my SO and need the privacy. I am looking for something around the 150$ range but for something really nice I'd be willing to stretch it out to 200$. If it makes any difference, the sort of music I enjoy are instrumentals, contemporary classical, ambient, and minimalist.

A few that I have looked at are: Beyerdynamic DT-770, ATH-A700X Audio-Technica ATH-A900X, Ultrasone HFI-580 S-Logic, and Audio-Technica ATH-M50. A lot of them are a bit over the budget I want to go over however; and I am not sure which ones would fit my needs best. I have looked at Mad Lust Envy's guide; however most of the headphones in my range were all open. I would greatly appreciate any help.

I couldn't find a lot of information on the Samson's. If I may ask, why are these good gaming headphones for their price? And do they compare well against the Creative Aurvana Live?

The CALs (Creative Aurvana Live) have great sound, but the cups are on the small side and they fatigue my ears so much I can only have them on for 15 minutes at a times.

Samsons are made by Superlux, I believe the Superlux HD669 is what the Samson SR950 is based on.

The Samson SR950 comes with Velour ear pads :)

That's the best info i can offer.

Another alternative, are the Ultrasone Pro550. Not as bassy as the HFI version and it has a nice soundstage for gaming.
