Need help from Audiophile! :)

Thread Starter

Hello everyone!

First I want to say I have been reading many post on this forum and you all look really awesome! So I decided to ask for your help, gamer, audiophile for a project of mine. For my project I'm looking for a headset and a microphone.

So here a few information first:

-I live in Canada, Quebec

-I have a budget of 320$ (including tax)

-I'm old enough to have lived during the turn table, audio cassette, Walkman etc...

-I've had all kind of headphone through the generation of 80s, 90s and up.

-Music always been very important to me both emotionally and in term of quality.

-I sadly have Tinnitus illness but can still hear very good and am still hoping to hear every little detail in music and games.

-I'm a gamer at heart and I do not mean only about First Person Shooter but adventure, stories, drama, romance, action etc..

I am opening a YouTube channel and need a good microphone but I absolutely do not want to waste quality on my sound experience and am looking for a good pair of audiophile headphone for both music and games. I really like to feel the low freq. such as explosion or hits in a game but in music I'm a lover of Orchestral music like Bear McCreary or Two Step from Hell for example so every instrument are important for an amazing journey into music for me.

-I like over the ears headphone so they do not make my ears uncomfortable.

-Open of Close headphone? I have no idea what it does.

-I would use them in a place where I am alone most of the time and not much sound around.

-I do not trust wireless gadget

-My computer has an X-FI soundcard

-Microphone would need to capture my voice but not what would be around me and be useful for commentary.

Important: I am by far not an audiophile tech person like all of you as I do not know much about the tech behind it but I know how a good sound can feel and a bad one I believe for being so much in love with music.

So that's it :) here's my challenge and I cannot wait to see what all of you will suggest.

Thank you!

~SilverWolf

PS: I had my eye on the Turtle Beach Ear Force XP Seven but I wonder what you all will think about it. And again thank you for your help! <3

Turtle beach = no go, overpriced garbage

Have you looked at Mad Lust Envy's gaming thread? If not, go do so. Maybe come back with some more questions afterwards...

I'd suggest headpone + mic as a baseline. What x-fi sound card are we talking about, I suppose it has cmss-3d? If you want an all in one solution you could look at the beyerdynamic mmx300 headset.

Which model Creative X-Fi sound card?

To me the Sennheiser HD558 is a good all around headphone for music, gaming & movies.

Turtle beach isn't that bad... as long as your not using them to listen to music ... I got a pair of X42 for the sole purpose to play games and only for $100

Totally agreed on the Senheiser 558, it has good value and it's also a good all rounder, I myself am a gamer although I have stopped playing them ever since stepping into this audiophile world. Personally I have tried playing Tomb Raider and other action games and let me just say that this headset is way better than any other gaming 7.1 headset you can find out there.

The reason why it's so good is because of it's big sound stage thanks to it being an open headset. your sound card should be good enough but if you are still unhappy you can always a get a DAC and an amp, even though the amp is not necessary as the HD 558 is easy to push.
