Marten Design Bird 2 speakers...bought!

After a lengthy decision making process with the wife, I have bought the Marten Bird 2 speakers. I am very excited and just wanted to share that excitement with you guys (my audio journey started from Head-fi, so this forum holds a special place in my heart).

I've been listening to a full EAR 890 / Marten Bird 1 setup for a long time (Audio Society members) and lusting after this sound. I have gone to numerous audio shows, listening to numerous systems in homes and at dealers and finally, I feel I am at peace with my decision. Picked the gloss piano cherry finish.

This is a long term speaker commitment (10 to 15 years) so I was evaluating very carefully and didn't want into rush into anything. Well, the opportunity presented itself and I'm going for it. Upstream components are all EAR (EAR 890 Amplifier, EAR 868 Preamplier, EAR 324 Phonostage, EAR DACute).

With a huge dent in the wallet and a mile wide smile, I have made this move. Thanks for reading folks!  Speakers will most likely arrive this coming weekend.

Marten demos all their speakers with E.A.R. gear, and Tim Paravicini is usually at RMAF talking about how well they go together.

I went to their room in Denver every year for 5 years, and listened to whole albums in there.  Gracious guys, really knowledgeable, and happy to play non audiophile-approved music for my immature tastes.  Marten speakers are lifelike, emotional and impactful in a way you don't soon forget.  I haven't heard the bird 2 in person yet, but everything else in their lineup leads me to believe that you made a great decision.  Really excellent stuff.

What are you going to play through first?

Thanks Sherwood!  Right now, I'm just playing some Steven Wilson through these.  The journey just started!

Updates with some pictures!!

The setup before:

My 20 month daughter old busting out the Air Guitar in the listening chair earlier in the day before the speakers arrived.

Hmmmmm, how does this go in again?

You handsome devil you!

Initial positioning

Dan Meinwald seems PRETTY happy!  Thanks Dan...you are such a gentleman.

From the listening seat...just soaking it all in.  It's a huge change in the system...just need to get my head wrapped around what just happened here. Looking forward to breaking in the speakers.

Very nice. I have some Accuton drivers (the ceramic drivers Marten uses) for a DIY speaker project that I keep putting off.

I'm sure your new speakers sound glorious in a well setup room like that. Now all you need to do is enjoy!

Cheers! The speakers have been opening up beautifully since I last posted.  Just an open sonic window into every performance.  So far, not a single regret with this purchase.

These Accuton drivers are so blazingly fast, I feel like it leaves all the electrostatic speakers I've heard behind.  Something magical about the speed, transients and transparency of these drivers.  I really hope you finish your DIY speakers.  The magic will really be in the crossover design :)

Congratulations and enjoy! From what I have heard at the various shows, the Marten's are well designed speakers with some solid technology behind them.

So an update!

The room has been renovated and the new wood flooring changed the sound of the room completely.  I had to retune with some room acoustics, tube rolling and cable changes.

Net result is a sound that is more alive yet with a natural warmth.  Older implementations of ceramic drivers and diamond tweeters used to be slightly "cooler".  Not the case with these speakers.  Crossover changes have taken the cohesiveness of these drivers to another level.
