portable setup help for my galaxy note 3.

I really wanna ball out and get the best possible sound quality out of my phone as possible. I'm traveling in a few weeks and after probably close to a day of research I'm still not confident in my ability to make the best choice. So my question is with the galaxy note 3 as the player, what combo of gear would give me the purest possible sound. Willing to spend 1000 but would prefer to spend about 800. They can be iem's or over ear. Isolation is somewhat important as well but I'll give up a little here or there on that for the purest sound. I listen to hip hop rap and electronic music as well as watching TV and movies. I do also enjoy my bass and I have a bit of a hearing loss in one ear if that makes any difference. Thanks in advance for the help.

Heya,

Step 1 - Ball out by getting a high quality DAP, and not using your cell phone.

Step 2 - Purest possible sound means having a device capable of lossless container playback, high quality DAC, and high quality amplifier, with a high quality set of headphones. In no place in this chain, does a cell phone belong, with the words "purest possible."

Step 3 - Save your money. I wouldn't drop $800~1000 for a mobile hip hop setup until you absolutely know what everything is equipment wise, and understand what you're trying to do. I know that sounds presumptuous, but I'm going off the fact that you're trying to use a cell phone, regardless of which one it is, as a $1k hi-fi setup. That's like trying to sup a economical compact car for high performance racing.

Very best,

I'm definitely a noob don't worry. Which dap would you recommend? And if a buy a very nice dap am I correct in assuming I wouldn't need to buy a separate amp and dac? Thanks for the help.

My thought would be that it would depend on the DAP; but my gut tells me that you still would in most cases.

Android phones with USB audio out can achieve that. One just has to buy a high quality portable DAC/amp. smily_headphones1.gif

Moreover, PowerAmp and Neutron media players for Android offer much more robust feature sets than most audiophile DAPS. Neutron even offers PEQ for fine tuning the sound of your headphones if you really want maximum capability.

Look into the Leckerton UHA-4 and UHA-6S.MKII dac/amp. These were discovered to work well with the Note 2 using USB audio out. Good chance they might work well with the Note 3.
