The HD800's on the other hand, have given me the most realistic presentation I've heard yet.

Actually it is quite the opposite. Mixing on a bright headphone will lead to a dark sounding mix and vice-versa.

it's called being passionate about something. In this case, a product they've never seen in person. hahahahaha......

Obviously derbigpr hasn't been here for a long time, this has been the case with almost every thread on new products in the past years on head-fi. Welcome to the hype-wagon.

Till the mods/admins start handing out warnings, issuing temporary bans and closing threads for off-topic nonsense…."yeah". There's always an argument and some sort of hostility in these kind of threads where fanboys from either sides start clashing into keyboard warrior stances.

It's a bit silly that the most active posters around here are the one that haven't heard it yet, while going on about different headphones than the K812.

......they have never heard it yet and probably will never buy it!

Well, the K812 cant be that good if these posters say that they aren't as good as the HD800.   The people at AKG should just cancel the release and go back to the drawing board.

Forget about trusting your ears...heck, forget about trusting other people's ears...you gotta trust these posters' gut feeling instead. :D

The only headphones appreciably better than the HD800s are significantly more expensive (SR009s) IMO. It's a testament to Sennheiser's engineering team that other companies (save for maybe Audeze's LCD-3s) can built dynamic headphones to compete with them after so many years. But when it comes to clarity, detail extraction and sound-staging they are virtually unbeatable (except for the SR009s). In terms of sound-staging alone...they are the best my ears have heard. Again, IMO and YMMV...yada, yada, yada....

I think the problem with the HD800s is that they take a lot ahead of them (amp/dac/source) to really sound their best and many don't take on that challenge.

Big thanks to @Ra97oR for the AKG K812 impression! Here's a link to it: http://www.head-fi.org/t/685339/new-akg-flagship-k812-first-impression#post_9877645

I added it into my post on the first page(2nd post) of this thread as well!

Wow this thread was such an entertaining train wreck I had to read through all 65 pages for pure entertainment.

Interested to see some more impressions of the K812 though.  Pricing seems to be 'interesting', though if it competes with the rest of the dynamic flagships I suppose it needs to look the part too.

Its all part of the fun if you ask me. We're all camping out here waiting for the shop to open, full of hope and opinions of what its gonna be like. Us AKG fans have been waiting a long time for this hp. There's inevitably going to be a lot hype and tensions!

The HD800 comparison is an important one to discuss imo. They are the standard that was set 5 years ago. It could do with a little more healthy competition, and the K812 looks like it may be it. Especially for the folks that may not be able to afford the upstream gear required for the Senn's.

I fully agree.  There has been so much pessimism on this thread.  Though, I also agree that some of the off topic spam like Nomax's SPL hyping is uncalled for.  But nothing at all wrong with speculating about it until it's released.  Like you said, it's fun.

You will see the realase of SPL New FLAGSHIP AMP with Remote Control in the next two weeks! And the K812 with SPL'S New AMP will be the Perfect combo!regards nomax

It's called boredom. If it were not, everyone would be listening to their current headphones in pure musical bliss. Instead we await yet another headphone since it's already been over 24 hours since our last one arrived. Now....where are my meds...:(
