Ah, je te laisse faire ton analyse car tu connais mieu le monde des ecouteurs que moi; c'est très bien, mais je ne pourrais pas te dire si c'est mieu que les HD800 par contre. C'est proche à mon avis."

Oh, I'll let you do your analysis because you know better now that the world of headphones me that's fine, but I could not tell you if it is better now than in the HD800 against. It's close to my opinion. "

dleblanc343, your translation is bettter.

Here's a translation of what he said: "I'll let you do the comparison since you have more experience with headphones; I find them fantastic, but I wouldn't say it's better than the HD800's however. It's really close in my opinion."

Pre-ordering for K812 in NZ has begun, and to my surprise it actually costs more ($2,100) than the HD800 ($2,000)... interesting

The French seem to like things fine. Fine dining, wine, clothing.......So I'm surprised that I don't see much french folk into fine headphones. Or maybe I haven't looked hard enough.

Any of you guys from France?

3. Comparing the AKG K701/702 to the HD800 is just a plain joke, the 701's are brighter than the HD800. Yes the HD800 does have a peaky treble but you cut this down by doing the Anaxmod and powering it with proper amplification. Throwing tube amplification at the HD800 doesn't fix the problem.
4. The HD800's are studio headphones I know of worldwide famous DJ's and some musicians/engineers that use it for monitoring. Tyll can't recommend the HD800's enough for monitoring purposes only.
5. The HD800 isn't some headphone you can plug into a pos amp or ipod and expect it to sound good.

I'm amazed the HD800 is still held in such high regard on head-fi. Combination of high price setting and consumerism has lead most people to believe "more expensive is superior". Then turn around and need to perform one of many mods to it, and add distortion in the audio chair (by tube amplifiers) to have a headphone where the treble doesn't stick out like a sore thumb.

It's held in high regard because it has earned it. Apart from the treble, which isn't as bad as many make it seem, the HD 800 makes sounds no other headphone near its price point can. I was hoping the K812 would destroy it since then it'd finally get some real competition. But that doesn't seem to be the case, so it'll remain competitively priced when stacked against the best everyone else has to come with.

Too early to tell.  The few (nomax, CantScareMe) who have heard the K812 think that it can compete with the HD800.

I hope so! I'm looking forward to listening to them whenever they start showing up in stores.

What sucks even more is that it will be a while before you can find one used in the sales forum.

Early adopters will have to pay through the nose.
