WTF is wrong with all these companies releasing $2000+ headphones, don't they realize besides stroking there marketing e-peen that a higher price does not mean better.

People pay these prices, take a look at summit-fi. Some even own flagships of all brands.

We're the market and we create the demand! As well we're the one that can put an end to this craziness!

Lol, imagine a world without head fi, the HD-800 will be around $600 and the K812 @ $500.

I am definitely with you. As much as I love HD800, I constantly keep searching for a cheaper headphone to downgrade because I find the price tag too much to my liking (paid 1.2k for my brand new pair). There are headphones that can be had for 3-5x less and still they perform very very well (like DT880, K712 Pro, ...).

My "problem" is that the combination of unbeatable soundstage and extreme comfort is what forces me to keep the Sennheisers =/ I do also like their FR a lot but I guess I could live with the tonal balance of K712 Pro as well...

Obviously a large percentage of those people that do care more about gear than music itself, viral marketing business at it's best.

The way I see it you're actually getting what you paid for if it's impossible to find anything else as good or better for less.

I keep trying though... These are the only headphones I own but still, I would like to see them priced up to 1000USD. 1500USD is simply too much for ANY headphone (including SR-009 since you need to get a very expensive amp to justify the purchase at least a bit).

Good point still... with a year of HARD saving 1,200 isn't to far off... but the amp issue is a problem!

really  want to try them out, but not sure if I want another 1000€+ headphone....

Ha, If I were AKG I'd keep the msrp what it is and let the comparisons between the other flagships roll in for some time, then when it comes out allow a low street price, like around $900-1000 perhaps. You see ;) It seems to be like almost as good as hd800 from the limited comparisons, then for $900 many would buy it, epecially as it is easier to drive as well.

For years the K 701, DT 880 and HD 650 were priced almost exactly the same. Took a long time before the K 701 dropped in price. I'd expect the K812 to be similar.
