NEW! AKG K812 - Page 44

Sennheiser once didn't enforce MAP either.

Anyway,

my local dealer offers them for 1099€ in three weeks so the Mid of November proved kinda right.

Really can't see something like that happening with the k812 though.

Really?  I don't know much about the K3003, but:

Headroom K3003i MSRP = $1499

Headroom K3003i actual price = $1299

This is indeed interesting. Their target is obviously HD800 and the pricing implies they believe K812 to be superior product. I've been having conversations with local AKG retailer and he offered to arrange me a demo session after we get the first K812 to Finland.

Maybe it will be listed as a "spare part" for the K812.  ;)

Traditionally they haven't been enforcing prices though, so lets hope that trend continues.

RazordogAudio (same place that you can get the K712 for $375) is expecting to be able to do discounts on the K812 as well.

Do you really think you could get K812 for 900USD instead of MSRP of 1499USD? This is impossible... AKG wants to compete directly with HD800 and others, they do not want people to look at the K812 like "eh, only 900USD? That's not even 1000USD, how could these be better than HD800, T1 or LCD-3?".

I also got specific discounts for several headphones I've owned... Still, that means nothing in a larger/worldwide scale - HD800 (for example) are still for 1499USD, that's the reality. Not the razordogs' strange pricing. I dont think it makes sense to use razordog as a reference.

Let's wait on the real pricing situation. In the case of MAP Razordogaudio would be punished for violation but we shouldn't discuss such stuff as we all here want the lowest price possible.

NO, I'm not expecting it for 900, that was just an extreme example going off the street price percentage from the K712.

With pricey headphones I certainly go out of my way to become an informed consumer, and I look at both the MSRP and the street price. That exactly what my previous two posts about the K712 and K3003 are doing.

If you want to just say "The price is 1499.  Period." that's fine.  As for myself, I'm going to shop around some (and I'm thankful that I live in a region where prices are more flexible).

I don't love the idea of the market just "agreeing" with the outrageously high prices given for these TOTL headphones, and I feel it could further encourage/reinforce the justification of such inflation.  Whenever I see a post for a TOTL headphone saying something like "$1499 is completely justified/A fair price/etc."  I cringe a little.

If you're referring to that spoiler image I posted, that was an image from deep in the checkout process and certainly not advertised.  Razordog is a legit authorized dealer, and I want him to stay that way.

But I'm with you on the bolded part.

I can't see the confusion guys. Multiple times across this thread the price has been confirmed.

Aside from the $1499 listing price on (I think it was) Headroom, the other prices are not even confirmed by reference, just "rumored".

I want the official pricing on these and official world on worldwide release status.

Unfortunately it is not a rumor.

Talked to Mike at Headroom and 1.5K USD is indeed MSRP set by AKG.

Now that would be a interesting price if it truly is competable with the HD800.

It looks like its going to be a real challenge to mod it into a balanced headphone, i'm not quite sure it even is possible or if it would be a impovement.

Really can't see something like that happening with the k812 though.

If that's the case then I'm disappointed, I give these a whirl when they are officially available here at A2A.

Even if they were beter than HD800 but cheaper, people would still buy HD800 because they are stupid and believe the marketing instead of their ears

That would also make spammers/noobs go away from this thread like me and make the thread much more valuable

Many also want to find the HD 800 as good as others or as it's acclaimed and amass tons of expensive gear for it. Also quite a common factor around here.
