They look great. The couple of impressions we've had, have been extremely positive. The specs look good..  What's there to be negative about!

I take raving from people who adore TH900 with a grain of salt...

Well, it used to be cool to bash Harmon\AKG here on Head-Fi.  You know, it showed that you were knowledgeable...that not only could you criticize the likes of Bose, but also belittle a well respected manufacturer such as AKG.    Once you sold those M50s and started to curse the Harmon brand, you demonstrated that you were not a Head-Fi noob any more.   :D

It's listed in the specifications that they are.

I asked Thomann when they're available for order. Didn't someone mention Mid November?

Well played. And sad but true!

But you also had peeps like me who have always liked the AKG flagships (and still own the K701 along with the HD800's) and knew that they had to come up with something very special, not only to be a worth while upgrade but at the same time be competitive with the current top tier hp's and their current high prices (too high imo). We've been asking for this hp for many years! So lets give it a warm welcome. And then if its schiit we can beat it to death and stomp all over its reputation later hahaha..

Time will tell whether they deserve the current starting price. But they will lose a lot of investment if they can't at least compete with the HD800's.

Seems a little bit silly to paint the driver, but it does look kind of cool. They must have really payed attention to lighting on the video.

AKG used colored plastic for their drivers in the '70s. Red, green, and white. In the '80s, they decided they wanted nothing to do with color and went with grey for everything.

Well, but back then the drivers weren't nearly as exposed. It's almost like this is part of the styling for the headphone.

True. They did have very visible passive diaphragms like that, though: http://wiki.faust3d.com/wiki/images/f/f9/AKG_K240_Pic6.jpg

This is the first time AKG has caught my attention since I bought the K701s (which I still have but don't really listen to all that much).

Looking forward to more impressions...

I owned a pair of sextets a few years back :D fun headphones to have with a vintage receiver!

I wonder why the diaphragm was colored back then? I'm sure it was for some functional reason.

Anyway, back on topic, I do like the blue. It adds a nice flair color to the headphones. I wonder how visible it will be in normal usage?  Also, have we heard anymore about the cable? I see now why they used a different connector from the XLR, but I hope they have a cable that uses the new connector and not the adapter thing they've got!

It took 5 years to AKG to put out a flagship to compete with the HD800 but most likely Sennheiser will launch a new flagship soon and it will take AKG another 5 years to release a 'me two' product of senn new flagship.

The blue was actually the coating that came back from the factory instead of paint, they left it there because they liked the look.

On the cable, it is pretty much horrible to sum it up. It looks and feel cheap, even the cable on my DT150 looks thicker and have the same kind of plug. If only they did the same 3.5/6.3mm plug that Audio Techica uses and a thicker cable, that will be a lot nicer.

They are not that dumb, they probably got something in reserve and yes, Sennheiser is actually really bringing something 2014. In both cases (K8xx and the new Sennie) it most likely won't be revolutionary but refinement. You don't develop a new driver just for one revision.

A new sennheiser? Great, choosing between a HD800 and K812 wasn't hard enough. :/
