NEW! AKG K812 - Page 27

People seem to like Nomax and call him a hero... I dont. Maybe I am weird or too realistic/pessimistic. I just distaste this childish way to talk about headphones or anything. I value rational approach - intelligent and experienced people talking together - and not stupid shouting about our new toys.

At this stage there's not much else to say about this headphone soundwise and just wait, if one is still interested, until the next person hearing it posts impressions. I think AKG are very European and so don't do much in the States. It might even be released here in the UK/Europe before anywhere else.

But I do think that removing the £100 stand from the package would be a good move from AKG. It'll make it by a genuine amount, lower priced than the HD800 and level with beyers T1 RRP in fact. Maybe sell two versions - with and without the headphone stand. And please provide say two more cables - one with a permanent 1/4 inch adapter would be nice.

Exactly, we all want a serious discussion about headphones, but seeing as there was no basis for serious discussuion [until now] the childish humor was enjoyable. It was... not sarcasim but... every one in that thread was just picking fun at our selvs. Nomax was teh extreme example of AudioPhiles, he was teh sterotype, and we praised him for his display. It's not ever day that we remember that "normal people" sometimes hear even our serious discussion as stupid shouting about new toys, and at the end of the day, boys are still boys and we boys do like our toys!

Yes there are plenty of female AudioPhiles but you get the saying, even with all of our seriosness and realistic approach to discussion about headphones. To the majority of the world, who look in on us from time to time, we might as well be shouting about a new toy

so Nomax was... I guess a reflection. He represented, or he mirrored our behavior in it's simplest form. ANd I for one got a kick out of that, my mother still gives me a funny look when I talk about headphones lol, but I give her a funny look when she talks about shoes. So it's always good to be able to laugh at your self. And if your too serious to step back and laugh at your own foolishness, well that's not good imo

[Nomax was an example of AudioPhile Satire]

I would like two packages for the headphone though, one with all the extra's and BONUS features. And one with the bare minimum!

Nomax is a gift to this community!
He only stated his own opinion and because nobody else had the privilege to even know about those new headphones we were just jealous and non-accepting.
It is the best headphone for him....thats all he said.
Hope it is the best for me as well!

I don't really care about the stand, and if removing it made it cheaper I'm all for that. I wonder how they're going to fit that stand in there, or if it's part of the packaging already with the headphone wrapped around it.

I would much rather it come with a quality storage case.  The K712 comes in a fairly flimsy cardboard box with a velvet pouch, but for their flagship headphones costing three times as much I expect something better.

I think to an extent, his presentation is a little satiracal. He may b very sincere in what he said, and we know he wasn't making anything up. So he's in a sense the pures't representation of an Audiophile, he found somethin ghe liked and shared it with those around him, I still feel he's a little extreme, which I find to be worth a laugh, not laughing at him but rather at the nature of the hobby, as even I've made sincere statements as extreme as his

Dissing nomax huh...I reckon we should have a poll, on a separate thread: 'love or not love Nomax?'

Actually that wasn't my intention.  I was just pointing out that there has been a thread like this about every 6 months for the last 5 years with rumors of a new AKG flagship, and I'm amused that after all the funny business surrounding the unveiling it actually wasn't a false alarm this time.

All that matters in the long run is that we put a pair of headphones on our head and enjoy what comes out of them.  Having said that though, $1.5K is a big investment for many people so I'm interested in opinions I feel I can trust, at least to the extent you can trust such opinions, before getting excited.

I loved my K701s up to the day they were destroyed by an amp malfunction.  If the current LCD-2s weren't so clearly superior in terms of detail retrieval I would have bought another pair, but I'm a big low level detail nut so it's hard for me to step back down when I find a new highwater mark in that area.

I don't think Nomax is really that extreme. Sure, in English he sounds like little, shouting kid. So it was hard to believe him. But in German he was like normal, reasonable person.

Anyway, as far as I can understand small jack in K812, then I have no idea who thought that headphone stand would be brilliant "gift". If I would like one, I would buy one. Maybe it is because AKG do not believe K812 will sell well with this price and they are trying to add something?

Only joking man.

If nomax is/was a troll, that's the best performance I've come across. Trolls should aspire to be like him.

Actually I did see the box, but only very briefly. Wasn't wooden or something dangerous looking (beyer T1's box). Black with I think it sliding out to reveal the main contents. The wooden stand is almost inbuilt into the casing and the headphone of course comes already on it. Rather the stand is wearing the headphone.

Very good point! I prefer HD800's case (over stands) to protect my headphones from mechanical damage AND dust all the time... It's extremely easy to just put the phones there and close the box since I have it next to my computer.

Agree! a high quality storage case is much more important for me, the stand is just an excuse to charge more money, a better cable will be welcome as well. Looks like AKG are not sure about the asking price, so they try to push some stupid "gifts" to worth the asking price. To be honest, I do have the money but I don't see myself getting them @ $1500 without the opportunity to hear them.

Unfortunately the last 7 pages have been lacking in new information and a bunch of idle chat.
