Getting senn hd 558. Question about receiver jack.

I plan to use a CD player going into a stereo receiver, and plugging the 558s into the receiver jack.
Receiver is a mid 90s Sony Es gx something... Could someone tell me if this is a good plan? I know about amps and dac, but for the time being, does a stereo receiver work well with those phones? Could it be
overpowering? Are 558s going to improve much with a headphone amp?

My Yamaha receiver seems to do a decent job of driving my 50-Ohm HD558s.

Just out of curiosity- A reasonable dac and amp to go with my current stuff?

An external DAC and headphone amplifier, where the DAC can connect to the S/PDIF optical or coaxial output on the CD player you have.

Audioengine D1, $170, comes with an optical input that can be connected to the optical output on the CD player, the Audio engine has a nice DAC chip and it's headphone amplifier can easily drive 50-Ohm headphones (HD558).

Also comes with a line-out (RCA) that could be connected to your receiver.
