Advice needed for computer speaker upgrade

Thread Starter

Hi all. I have read a number of threads on this forum regarding upgrading, but all it has done is make me consider more options. =) I am by no means an audiophile and I could use some help.

I currently have an Asus Essence ST and some old Klipsch Promedia 2.1's and I would like to upgrade the speakers to something better. I tried the Corsair sp2500 set and I hated the way they sounded and would up returning them. My second choice based on reading this forum were the Swan m50w's which are coming back in stock this week apparently. A number of people also recommend the Mk200ii/iii with the option to add a sub later.

I also have an extra pair of JBL l820's from years back when my planned 7.1 upgrade stalled at 5.1. I was thinking of buying a low end AVR to power them and possibly adding my old Sony sub if bass is lacking. As a test I hooked the l820's up via RCA to my Denon 3808 sans sub but something just seemed off. I'm not sure if it's because of the old cables and/or if the Audyssey room settings were interfering or if something else was the problem.

I would like to keep the budget under $450. Thanks in advance for your help.
