DAC for AKG K701

Guys, please give me a piece of advice what DAC under $500 to buy for my AKG K701 headphones. It seems that it is not easy to find a suitable couple for K701, so need your help.

There are certainly a lot of choices in this price range, and I've only had experience with one.

I've been using my K 702's with the AudioQuest Dragonfly for about a month now.  Very nice

layering and keeps the wonderful soundstage.  Just a bit on the warm side which is fine for these

headphones.  Still keeps all the detail that I love.  Supports the midrange well and doesn't seem to

shirk in the bass.  Good return for this price point.

So, just a data point.

I'm a Mac user so I'm using an Apogee Duet 2 with my K701 & HSC271. No problems and great performance. Love it. If you're on a PC check out the MOTU Track16. It has EQ and effects and it's a little cheaper than the Duet!

Do you need spdif inputs, or only usb ?

Which amp are you going to use ?

Which dacs and amps have you tried so far ?

There are no demands of the K701 that would require a specific DAC. It's the amp that's of issue. The AKG site says they have a maximum continuous power rating of 150 mw. I had them for like 8 years and found a little more power available made for better listening. Say 500 mw. As is asked above, if you are running say an SS amp, would you want to warm them up with a tube DAC or the opposite mix? It's just general consideration that you want to use as accurate a DAC as possible and color that signal with your amp. If you want to consider a combo unit, that's another option.
