I was wondering what you were amping them with.

What a tragedy that some people never heard them with a decent amp.

So, should these people buy another pair, along with a decent amp, just so there is no question that they did not like the signature?  Because everyone that has heard the HD650 with a decent amp loves them, right?

Resistance is futile, I suppose.

Maybe, they scale very well.

No, not everyone, but there are a bunch  http://www.head-fi.org/t/197776/sennheiser-hd650-appreciation-thread

They are smooth and warm and not for everyone, they are not even the best I own/heard, but I consistently go back to them and enjoy the music.

I'm not the guy you originally quoted, but I  used a Yulong D100 and a Burson 160D (and straight out of a couple of receivers and my iMac).

I don't think the 650s are bad, but too much midbass and not enough subbass did not do it for me.

I did not like them as much out of my Burson as well. I thought that would be a perfect combo and it was a bit dull and lifeless. I really love the Burson with low imp cans though (D7k, W1000x and etc..) very musical with those.

LOL.   What does that prove?  If you like the signature, good for you.

I thought you would say something like this.

I guess I will just have to always wonder about that properly amped HD650 while I listen to whatever headphone I think I prefer over the HD650's signature.   Damn you...you've ruined this hobby for me.

Not trying to "prove" anything, just discussing.

Overrated: vmoda m80. I don't think they sound that great. I think they sounded slightly grainy, lack treble sparkles, and are uncomfortable. The best thing they have are built and included accessories (best case). I own these and the esw9, I find the esw9 are better no mater how many time I listen to them back and forth. I use to own the dt1350 and keep hearing these are up there, so decided to give it a try.

AKG K701: too thin sounding for me and lacking in the bass. Sold after 1 week of use.
AD700: most bass-light headphone I have ever heard.

Underrated: definitely the sony MDR ma900, I'll have a review on them soon.
Beyerdynamic DT440, why one earth does nobody know about these?

Don't want to spoil your review...but do you like the DT880 or the MA900 more?

I'm intrigued by the MA900, tis verrr cheap... And I do appreciate good soundstage and imaging.

Any more impressions or should I find the appropriate thread ;) S'pose we're still on topic as it does sound very underrated :D

How are they in regards to resolution and tone? Compared to say.. hd600, dt880?

overlooked, unnoticed, unheralded (but not underrated):

Beyer DT 250 - 250 ohm

closed headphones of the highest calibre -> neutrality, imaging, timbre & musicality

(the KRK slogan applies here: "For educated ears")

Not surprising that the Deutsche Grammophon sound engineers are using them for monitoring...

overrated:

DT 880 (haha...)

Yeah, I've been ploughing through the related threads and reviews. Seems we have a classic fotm... Lots and lots of hype, but not much substance... Seriously, not one good review to explain why these are soo good in any kind of detail and comparison. Only soundstage and comfort.

Big claims but not much to back them up. Also a lot of the peeps doing the hyping and selling off higher end hp's don't have any real amps or sources from what I've seen. They do however sound like a true bargain! And I'm sure they are, but If you've already heard the 650's dt880's Q701's on good equipment then it seems that they may not be quite as good as made out. According to some more respected hf'iers.

muahahahahahh I'm writing about a headphone that I've not heard!! Somebody STOP ME!!

:D
