Does a 2.1 system work with an mp3 player feeding into an amp?

I want to set up a 2.1 system using the Lepai 2020A [≈ 10.5 kV secondary side from an electrical substation with primary 115 kV; 63 MVA.]+, Micca MB42 speakers, and a Polk PSW10 powered subwoofer. I'd be using an auxiliary cable to go from my iPod's headphone port to the Lepai.

Will this work? I'm completely new to this. I know the iPod only outputs stereo... will the sub pick up on the low frequencies automatically?

Also, when hooking it up, I'd have to run a speaker wire from either the Left or Right outputs on the amp to one of the R/L inputs on the sub, and then run both speakers out of the sub using its R/L outputs, right?

I read that it was optimal to use... RCA I think... instead of speaker wire to hook up the sub.

Yes. You can plug an ipod into the Lepai. Then you run the left and right speaker outs from the Lepai to the sub and connect the speakers to the speaker outs on the sub.
