New JH Audio flagship! "Siren Series Roxanne" - Page 319

This thread is depressing, full of unfulfilled orders and broken nuts...
The Noble thread on the other hand is full of fulfilled orders and new announcements... What a contrast!

The big question is though - is it quite as bad as the JH3A fiasco?  I don't know as I wasn't around for that, but the way people talk it seems like some sort of low-water mark on head-fi.  Maybe not quite as bad as scammy things like Singlepower, but bad for a legit vendor.

Which begs the question... why are we here again, and why are people surprised?

Aside from the merits of their products, it's hard to compare the two companies... JH Audio likely produces an order of magnitude more orders, and with Noble you have a strong forum presence from the company's principals.  You can always count on the latter for lending a jovial and fun vibe where everyone is on their best behavior.  People with issues will just send a PM instead of airing their dirty laundry.

JH3A was not actually built by JHA but through a third-party. The original designer behind the project left mid-flight which complicated things immensely. Then the patent issue cropped up at the very end...

Note: I was and am a JH3A customer.

The problem now is that when you have a delay like this, every mistake JHA makes gets magnified and scrutinized ten fold. Not saying that is necessarily wrong since at the end of the day, JHA needs to deliver a quality product to restore credibility among a lot of the folks in this thread.

Wasn't a patent dispute one of the reasons for the jh3a being delayed?
Did the initial designer bow out because of the patent issues?

Wow, I didn't know any of that.  I know shipping delays were pretty severe and I recall there was some issue with the battery, perhaps units that were flakey, but I wasn't aware of these circumstantial issues.  That does sound like a real nightmare.  In the end though, did the community largely hold JH accountable or forgive them for it?  Some of the earlier postings in this thread had some vitriol saying they would never do business again with JH, but those were mostly dwarfed by enthusiasm.

Yeah, I agree about the quailty product thing - if a year from now the Roxanne is seen as a solid flagship product (not necessarily replacing the 13/16, but a different 'type' of flagship) and the kinks are all worked out, then no harm no foul.

If Jerry Harvey jumped in this thread right now with a mea culpa I do believe the tone of this thread would turn around big time.  Not having that sort of community involvement when things like this happen is a bit of a blunder IME.  Just spending 30 minutes every 2 weeks to give an update would work wonders.

I really wonder why JH doesn't have someone in this thread to answer questions....

In good faith they should refund carbon fiber surcharge and give that option free to all the people still waiting for theirs.

If Jh had someone answering question here in this thread it would end up getting locked. All this anger and frustration directed at this employee I could only imagine.

jhaudio aren't responding to my emails, I don't even see an order when I login to their website. Lol. Nice!

Depends on how it's handled.  I've seen this happen several times on a variety of enthusiast sites (audiophile/guitars/fashion/car).

If the company rep shoulders the blame appropriately and gives a clear indication of the state of things currently and what will happen moving forward, things improve tremoundously.  Sometimes the most vocal critics will apologise for over the top behavior.

OTOH, things can go down quickly if the rep is bad at public relations.  Jerry Harvey is well loved (but please no "pipe wrench" comments haha) as is Corbyn... but maybe Angie might not be the best person for the job.

I could go on and on about what happened, what JHA did wrong, what they did right, how deplorable some Head-Fi'ers behaved during the process, etc. etc. Doesn't matter. In the end, the 3A was a fantastic sounding product (one of the best, ask around) that was ultimately a failure because of the long delay and miscommunication. That's my 2 cents AS a staunch JHA supporter and 3A customer.

The fact is the JHA gang over there are very friendly and try to do the best they can. It doesn't always seem that way, but I assure you, if you've had any interaction with them you would know that. Folks who meet and talk to Jerry at shows and so forth, know he is a stand up guy, been in the biz for many years, and wants to deliver the best CIEM in the world.

I agree with most of the sentiments expressed on this thread though, the Roxanne CF launch as been dismal at best, with defective units being shipped out when they shouldn't and of course the cable collar debacle. I'm sure Jerry is quite aware of this and doing this best to rectify it. Only time will tell if he can win back the community's trust.

Unlike the 3A though, I have less patience this time around and will expect him to deliver the CF units by end of April else I too might make that call to cancel.

JHA doesn't really need to come to headfi as long as he makes the sound he makes. The staff barely has time to keep up with the customer interaction, so having someone spend time here doesn't make sense. We will keep going back because that's the only place we can get that sound.

There are options to get better customer service, but you'll be getting something else. If he doesn't produce a win, things would change, but so far, he's been delivering... well delivering and not delivering at the same time.

The patent was the problem at the beginning. Jerry took people's money to develop a product he knew he couldn't deliver and then stalled and stalled and blamed others. The final product ended up being totally different than the vaporware original. And the quality of the final product was low according to lee730, a jh3a owner.

For the Roxanne, Jerry merely took people's money for a version of the product (the carbon fiber) he didn't know how to make in any quantity and quality, leading to huge delays and quality problems. He also didn't have the cables quality tested. Still a customer service disaster, but possibly less unethical?

That's just a factual summary.
