IMHO, from fit perspective customs are a way better than univerals. But the main drawback of the CIEMs is that you have to completely rely on someone's opinions/impressions, which differ a lot.

For whatever reason I just couldn't get a fit.  Tried fisher (ineearz), Minerva and Cosmic Ears.  For some reason my right ear likes silicone whilst my left prefers acryllic.  Not been able to work that one out either.  I am now getting a bit of success with either a minerva mi 1 (half shell, silicone) or a Cosmic Ears acryllic ma1 (micro).  It's been enough of a hassle to put me off (and there are others on here, someone needed 7 refits I seem to remember!). So that's why some people like the universals of customs (he said, dragging it back on course!).

Damn universal version

Someone needs to take a hit for the team and compare both

Has anyone compared their own JH13's to the Universal Roxanne demo? I'd be very curious to hear their thoughts!

I can and will compare a few ciem,s at the ny meet.  as for universal and customs. its a choice but I think most as they get experience will gravitate to customs. as for the guy that had a fot problem . my first pair I thought did not fit either and they went back to jh . well they then dip them again. still nt right...  well the truth was me and not inserting them correctly. I have to pull and twist my ears to insert them and then pull the side of my ears to seat them flush. every pair I own.. so as I cannot be for sure look up ave joe and read how to insert. also it took me more than a month to realize this as I to almost gave up..

I hope this helps someone

Why? More earphone in japan?

Isn't it great that they offer both Custom & Universal ? For the many reasons mentioned by the guys in their posts, some suit Customs others Universals.

Credit again Jerry, more company's should be going this route, although there may be a few already doing this.

Markups (for tax, distribution, wholesale, etc.) are high for foreign brands in Japan - e.g. the JH13 is approx USD$1710 in e-earphone.

But the same can be said for Japan products overseas. The TG!334 is approx $1000 in Japan, but $1300 overseas.

Or more likely it's because governments are inherently corrupt to one degree or another and extremely wasteful of taxpayer dollars.

True dat, sometimes it doesnt quite work out...see American Civil War. Since winners write history we all think it was about slavery, but oh no. It was about tariffs and the South was furious. "Why can't we buy clothes from France, they should be cheaper but you taxed them!? What!? There's a tax on exporting cotton so we can't sell to France either, we HAVE to sell to you!? Ok, see you in Gettysburg bro." Who knew Southerners had such a bromance with the French?

Anyway on topic, the universal version is hellappealing that way you can let your friends use your sick full carbon fiber iems. Who cares about the full shell in a custom? No one sees anything but the faceplate and its not like you will be loaning them out for others to try cuz well, they won't fit.
