In decided I would not change my order and wait whatever time it takes. I really want the CF Roxanne. But I am not pleased.

I'm more of a newbie, so I can't provide any lengthy technical review, but can only give some initial impressions.  The fit is fine without problem and very comfortable.  I only unscrewed the cables once and have not had any problems with the connectors yet but have had limited time to try the IEMs so they have not had a great deal of wear yet.

My main problem is that when I use them with my older iPod (2nd generation) or a 4 year old MacBook Pro, there is quite a bit of hiss or noise without even playing any music.  It is drowned out somewhat when I play music, but it is noticeable enough that it would not be practical to use these with either source.  If I plug them into my desktop computer  headphone output, there is no hiss and the sound is fine.  I have also tried them with my iPhone 5 and with my wife's more recent iPod touch and the sound is terrific with both of these sources and there is no baseline background noise or hiss.

I haven't used them enough and am not expert enough to be able to comment on soundstage, etc. but I find the sound very enjoyable when used with the iPhone or newer iPod - clear, and able to distinguish poorer recordings for sure. Isolation from outside sound is quite good.   I haven't played with the adjustment for the bass yet.  It should also be pointed out that there are no instructions provided with the unit.

This is my first experience with CIEMs and they are certainly comfortable and not fatiguing as headphones can sometimes be.  The cord is somewhat short and I would need the source quite close to me.  I'll probably purchase an extension so I can use them at my desk played through an external DAC.  I have previously been using older Etymotic Research IEMS (earlier version of the ER-4)  and I prefer the new Roxannes although unfortunately I can't use them with my older iPod frown.gif

I have not had a chance to try them with the MacBook Air yet and don't know if that will cause the same type of hiss.  Hopefully it won't, as that will likely be my next laptop and I was hoping to use these with  a laptop.  Of course, using a USB type DAC with the laptop might alleviate the problem but unfortunately I have no way of knowing that up front.

I did contact JH Audio about the hiss, and they responded that the Roxannes had so much top extension that it was revealing the noise at the source.

Has anyone who has received the Roxannes had any similar experience with background hiss and is that to be expected with laptops for ex.?  Does it resolve with an external DAC/Amp?  If anyone has any other suggestions for use with the laptop or older iPod  that would be appreciated.

That's about all the info I can provide at this time.  So far I am very pleased with the sound but hope that I can find a solution so that I can use them with more sources as I don't plan on buying an A&K.   Potential users may want to consider what sources they plan on using the Roxannes with.  For those who have ordered and are waiting, I can understand your frustration but I think you will enjoy the sound once you ultimately receive them.

Have you considered the AK10 / beyerdynamic A200p?

Amen!!! Completely agree. However, no less anxious

Just gave up on the CF option. Being from another country (with crazy tax policies, mind you) makes it too much of a risk if I get any sort of defect or even a bad fit with a material that's proving itself too difficult to handle.

Thanks for the reply.  Actually, I had considered the AK10 since I was able to see it at the RMAF.  I was wondering if anyone had a similar situation and if so, if the AK10 resolved the issue or if it persisted.   If there is some noise originating with the laptop or iPod, will an amp get rid of the noise or only make it worse?

I used a Shure volume control with my studio V 3rd anv to get rid of noise I was hearing with both my UE7S and my Roxanne's. Works great. YMMV

I talked with Robyn yesterday about the delay with the CF Roxanne's.  She stated that there was an issue with the drying/curring time with the CF for both the CIEM's and the case.  They have a new oven on order that should take care of the drying/curring time issues.  The other issue was some bubbling that was happening due to the curring process.  That also should be taken care of with the new oven and processes that are being put in place.  Thought you might want to know what I was able to find out.

The AK10 bypasses the internal amp and DAC, so I would think it would get rid of the noise

Reading what many of you have said about paying taxes I feel quite lucky because I didnt pay anything. And I did have to send them back once. Well, that's because I was in South Korea when I ordered them. They don't check your packages there as they do in Romania. smily_headphones1.gif

The below is from Angie regarding my order

Please accept our sincerest apologies from the entire JH team for the delay in your order.

Just so you are aware, we haven't even released this product to the Pro market and the status is unknown at this juncture. We have taken significant steps to ensure production goes up, such as, hiring more people, buying additional equipment etc. The Roxanne was a pre - order which means it was yo hold your place in line. Our team is working as diligently as possible to get you the most beautiful sounding IEM on the planet (and most stunning looking).
I do not want to give you any expectation of a ship date but I can promise that our team is working as hard as we can.

We truly do appreciate your continued support and patience and of course want to ensure your happiness.

I'm tired

One thing I will say that I thought was impressive... when I talked to Corbyn she pretty much twisted my arm to keep my order with CF, despite 1) getting it during BF (only $160 upcharge, so they could very well be losing $$) and 2) the difficulty and delay in the queue working with the material.

That's an enthusiast mindset.  I dig it.  It may take another 2-3 months but I hope to have these that many years or more.
