New JH Audio flagship! "Siren Series Roxanne" - Page 127

I have both the hdpr10. And the stock ak120

They both sound very close to each other
I have a few CIEMS. Jh13 and 16 fp
Tg334 heir 4ai and 8a. And the same results with headphones
I am curious to know how this could change with this IEM

Was the same song same player on both units
As if not , it cannot be considered as real opinion

Sorry. Didn't have the chance to try with the Theorem 720 DAC.

On the other hand, I used the HM-901 with the IEM card and it was just singing. I entered Mook at around 1200, went to JH booth and stayed there for 90 minutes just enjoying what I'm hearing with the 901-Roxy combo.

No worries. I've suspected the Roxanne is brutally revealing of weaker sources in general.

Perhaps the tracks used during my audition with the AK120 didn't exhibit the harshness at the time.

Though the ibasso DX50 with ALO rxMK3B+ was showing how inadequate the combination was as every track i've tried (WAV rips from CDs) were sounding lacking and some were harsh sounding. Yet the same tracks sounded fine on my JH13 pre-freqphase unit. Am really flustered at the moment, as this means i need to re-look at my current set-up.

Yes, as i've suspected the HM901 would probably sound better with the IEM or Balanced card, as the unit i tried with was the standard card. And the standard card has its own nature which somehow didn't work nice with the Roxanne.

Well I hope it is great with the balanced card and balanced cables.

Hi Alrainbow,

Yes. My audition with both r10 and AK120 using the same set of music tracks, had similar experiences as yours.

Though in the whole equation of music file all the way to Roxanne, there are many variables that could have led to differing results.

Also i suspect that and observed during the whole day stay at Mook, many who auditioned the Roxanne, didn't bother or didn't know they could adjust or check the bass dials on the cables and auditioned AS IS. There were many demo units of Roxannes and i fear there were many different adjusted bass on each unit. Think this led to very mixed impressions as the bass dial causes very significant shifts in the way Roxanne presented the music.

Am quite confident the Roxanne will sound amazing on balanced card and cables.

The standard card has its unique tone which probably wasn't the best combination with Roxanne.

For myself, am looking at replacing my DX50 with perhaps the Fiio X5, r10 or an AK120, to go with the Roxanne in the (hopefully not too distant) future. As the latter 2 DAPs seem to have better synergy with the Roxanne (at least to these ears).

Do you know if it was the old standard card or the new standard (also known as classic) card?

Thanks for the very good observation. I do feel better now. But I am wondering.
Thanks

I'd go with the old standard card since the unit is a few months old.

I have bal cables with portible bal amps and dacs. And it does make a difference.
But I do not feel it will fix the sound if not good to begin with.

Agree. I feel a good source is key to getting the best out of the Roxanne.

So am now sourcing for a dap and amp replacement, since my current ibasso DX50 and ALO rxMK3B+, were found lacking.

I own the amp. It is not lacking. It may have a hiss with noise floor but is a Solid performer.
I do not have the dx50 DAC though I have there bal DAC dpd I think.
I think you need to investigate why this is happening to your system before spending money

I think a modified Ak120 vs a stock one is a very significant distinction.

The headphone amp is one of the best..all you need is algorithm solo dac to finish things off!
