The new Sony NW-ZX1 could be pretty close. It doesn't have expandable storage but its packing 128GB internal so should keep most people happy. It hasn't been released in the UK yet but HOPEFULLY it should around or under the £500 mark when/if it does.

I think our best option is to wait & see what people thinks pairs best with the Roxanne before we go spending on new DAPs. I'd put up with a shoddy UI I think if it meant I was in audio bliss. I'd rather that than a snazzy UI & unimpressive sound...

We will have to wait and see, but the Fiio X5 might turn out to be what you are looking for.

It needs to be in customers' hands for a few weeks before we'll know how the UI and hardware perform, but it's shaping up to be a potentially great value DAP (circa $400).

It should easily drive the Roxanne's and will also have a low output impedance, since Fiio take OI seriously.

Why is that a problem?

NW-ZX1 is 'only available in Japan' (so-to-speak) and on back-order until end of January.

CIEMs like the Roxanne can sometimes take 2-3 months, and, similarly, a good DAP is worth waiting 2-3 months for.

10-12 weeks passes fairly quickly with a bit of

Patience...

I DONT HAVE PATIENCE

Just kidding xD

I mean if he wanted one NOW then he'd have to look for something other than the X5 right?

EDIT: Yes, unless he has a friend in China. I want a friend in China *looks at Mims*

What amps/DAC/Daps are the rest of you going to be using?

I do not know which will pair better with Roxanne...ZX1 or X5. But I will try to get my hands on a X5 soon. Only problem is that the Chinese X5 will have only Chinese UI...works for me but for others...

oh, glad you said that, I was going to have a colleague try to get one for me on his next trip to China...not now, I'll wait.  Needed more reviews to read anyway.

I am not fully sure about that language issue though...I think James mentioned it. Sorry about the OT but so many people want a decent DAP for their Roxanne smily_headphones1.gif who will be the winner between my 901, Tera, ZX1 and the X5? Or maybe AK200 or Calyx?

From my short audition with the Roxanne at the recent Mook Festival in Singapore, the Roxanne paired best with the AK120 and iBasso/Hibino hdp r10 standalone and with RSA SR71 amp combo.

It was good with the Hifiman HM901 and DX50 with ALO rxMK3B+, but the synergy with AK120 and r10 were undeniably better (at least for me).

Thanks...but which card with the 901.

Standard Card.

Probably would play better with Balanced or IEM Card.

I have not heard the Roxanne with the R10, but I have heard it with the AK120 and, no offense, but it sounded harsh on some track and I have to tame it down with a bit of EQing. It was actually with an RWAK120-B.

On the other hand, I used the HM-901 with the IEM card and it was just singing. I entered Mook at around 1200, went to JH booth and stayed there for 90 minutes just enjoying what I'm hearing with the 901-Roxy combo.
