True, reading different and somewhat opposing impressions sometimes makes decision making confusing instead of helping. You need to at least hear or have some IEMS you can use as baselines or what others usually calls a reference which you can base your impressions of new or futures ciems on.

Imagine how would you quantify the SQ quality of your lone, only IEM?

Exactly. I bought one of my ciem based on someone s view how it sounded . Well I got it and it did not sound how I wanted it. I only can blame myself as I. Did not know there baseline in the review and I did not know my own either .

User reviews are always subjective and they are not really the deciding factor for me to get a particular IEM not unless I know the reviewer well or if the reviewer knows what type of sound I prefer.

To be honest the first iem I bought based on reviews and impressions online wowed me. But without a baseline, it's easy to be impressed. But then when I started demoing other iems, the first iem I bought turned out to be the least I wanted to hear now.

Question: so the non-carbon option Roxanne will get the regular aluminium case?

According to my subjective listening impressions, my universal and full custom UERM versions sound almost indistinguishable from each other. So, in my book, it can be done.

I think it varies among people. My case is a little extreme, since my ear canals are about 2.5x wider than average, but I didn't hear my custom 4.A and the universal 4.Ai as being even related. Other people who heard both didn't find them as different from one another as I did.

My understanding is that they all come in the same case as described on their site:

Personalized Carbon fiber and aircraft aluminum carrying case (There is only one case which is made of aluminum frame and CF panels)

Custom molded carbon fiber earpiece tray, fits snuggly inside the carrying case to hold your IEMs securely in place

That's my understanding too... but some dude told me that I would be getting the round case. If that's the case I would be really disappointed :(

A review mainly describing the bass:

Quote:
Everybody was talking about them, and I could see why the Roxannes did divide opinion. In many ways though I appreciated their strengths, but that also in a weird way become their weakness.

What the JH do well would be the bass. I heard many call it a basshead's headphone. Well not too true, there is bass, but all of it is very textured and certainly benefits far more tunes than expected.

For me a fast way to tell a well tuned bass earphone, from a poor one, would be to play some trip-hop, or a song which surprisingly calls for punch like Perfume.

The poorly tuned ones would manifest all the bass in the 80-120hz region, giving it a one note nature that gets boring, and probably gives bass an undeserved reputation.

Not the JHs. I found myself reveling in the deeply detailed bass that etches itself in the notes and powers the tune along. From Massive Attack's bass sweeps, which hit even more lows, to the double roll off in Perfume's Butterfly, there was stuff I had never heard before.

Skrillex also never sound that thrilling before, like riding a roller coaster backwards, but with just enough refinement to make you stay on for the long haul

I also heard comments that the treble was rolled off. Not too true that one either, if it was so I would be missing some air and detail, but it was all there. I guess its due to the "dominating frequency" theory, where the frequency that seemingly stands out to one the most, is the one you find that defines the earphone, despite the inherent balance.

For those who would like less bass, there's always the JH13 which I found in many ways to be the sweet spot.
