Audeze LCD-X - Page 60

Don't forget the XC if you want to whole family :D

I'll stay with my LCD-3 & LCD-XC couple for a while I think.

Also Dan: excellent review! I very much agree with you on your impressions regarding the LCD-3.

Quick impressions that I posted on the "prototype LCD-XC" thread. Thought that my help some! Please ask me for specifics, with my work setup limitations in mind!

Just received my LCD-XC at my office in Paris! Fast shipping.

First impressions from a weak source (Spotify "high quality" (320 kbps Ogg Vorbis) on my work computer (Macbook Pro) and Fiio E17 DAC/AMP) vs. my LCD-3:

Bass is a little tighter, more controlled, more "enclosed". You can feel the reverb of the bass against the hard wood. Surprisingly, the soundstage is not too affected compared to LCD-3: yes, it's closer to you, but a far cry from traditional closed cans where you have a wall of sound against your ears.

The midrange is nicely textured, engaging, and natural. Again the source is below par and the Fiio sends a "digitalized" sound but you can easily feel the potential of the cans.

Highs are almost more detailed vs. my LCD-3 without becoming aggressive, the signature is less laid back, in a word it's less suave and more fun.

Also imaging is excellent, at the level of my SRH1840, which is an accomplishment for closed phones. All in all it's the Audeze house sound with a little bit more fun thrown in it.

Again these are very preliminary impressions, there has been virtually no burn-in and the source is far from being adequate. I'll try later tonight with my desktop setup (FLAC files -> Xonar Essence ST as DAC -> Burson Soloist) and will do some A/B-ing with the LCD-3.

The sound isolation is good, albeit not great. A low to medium listening levels nobody will hear you. I however like to listen with quite high volume levels and some frequencies can be heard (high midrange notably). This is in a dead silent room where the next coworker sits at less than 1m from me. So it's not IEM-level but still an amazing achievement for full-size cans. Of course, when musing is playing at a decent volume level you can't hear a thing from outside.

Fit is amazing, these seem more comfortable than the LCD-3, that I already found pretty good in that department (contrarily to some people, as I reckon).

I can't wait to see what these babies can do when properly driven, but it's already a very, VERY enjoyable experience. Obviously Audeze did it again.

Oh and of course, these babies are drop dead gorgeous (got the Bubinga wood with black leather. Smoking)

Cheers

Great!

Can't wait to put my paws around one.

I noticed that Audeze added the option for black anodized aluminum rings now on their site.  The black rings look pretty slick.

CREATOR: gd-jpeg v1.0 (using IJG JPEG v62), quality = 100

Appreciate your review.

If you don't mind, can you compare the isolation out (or leakage) between LCD-3 and XC. It seems like it is pretty quiet though.

Great job!!

The  human voice is my favorite instrument on earth...so the fact that you were really impressed by how the X reproduces vocals is a huge selling point for me.

Thanks for putting the effort into such a helpful review!

Great review, well done! I can't wait to hear these babies.

@Kiont: No problem, very easy to answer: leakage between the LCD-3 and the LCD-XC is day and night. At the same listening level, the LCD-XC is barely audible (totally silent for someone at more than 1.5m from you), the LCD-3 feels like small notebook speakers. That's the main reason I bought them, even though at the time I didn't know the leakage characteristic of the XC...pure speculation that, I can say now with confidence, has paid off!

Nice review! The LCD-2 was bass heavy with rolled highs, the LCD-3 helped improve that a bit but not completely. It seems that with the X they finally got it right.

Now the big question. The XC or X?

I really want to buy them now, waiting for MH to put some detailed lcd-x vs lcd-3 comparisons. I had enough time to get a good idea, but not long enough to decide which one i will live with.

The black rings just do it for me....but I almost think they should offer a couple more colors given how much it changes the look of the headphones.

(I just had to quote this picture once more )

I just changed my order via the Swedish distributer. I will get the black rings! :beerchug:

The Gun Metal Gray rings are out of stock so Audeze is currently only delivering in black. If you have an order you can probably change the color. Gun Metal Grey will be delivered later.
