Audeze LCD-X - Page 45

Well...this pretty much convinces me that I don't really know if I want these or not. :o

How does it stack up with the HE-6 and HE-500? I would guess that the LCD-X is a step closer to the Hifiman sound signature, but still darker sounding with more bass quantity.

Based on the measurements, the X just looks like a LCD2 with a more prominent treble hump; still wayyyy closer to the Audeze sound signature than Hifiman's, at least on paper.

When comparing the overall downward slopes, the HFM stuff is still less rolled. It sounds that way too. I compared the HE-500 to the LCD-X. The LCD-X is faster, more articulate, and cleaner sounding than the HE-500 from most amps. It may be a bit closer with the HE-500 from my power amp, but I didn't compare with that directly.

Yeah, thanks for catching that. Same letters, just a bit.... reversed.

All these comparisons have made me even more curious about the LCD-XC.

A Number 3 wood for distance.

Are you referring to the HE-500 with Jergpad here?

I was considering to get the 500s back after 9 months when all the talk about the LCD-X came out. I was expecting a somewhat similar voicing to the velour 500s but it seems it's not there yet...

The HE-6 are too etched for me so far (I prefer the 5LEs tonality) so I was considering the Audeze as an alternative.

As a point of reference: the Mad Dogs 3.0 were too dark for my taste. The 500s and 5LEs have the tonality I'm after, but I want more technicalities (the HE-6 fit that bill. If only...).

Went for the bubinga. The purple heart is tempting but I was a little bit worried about it being too purple which may be harder to sell if I was ever crazy enough to do such things. I emailed audeze to get my freq response graph so I could post it.

Just fyi. Audeze said that if the wood cups on the xc are removed then the warranty is void.I was hoping that I could buy the other wood cups and interchange them if I was in the mood for something different. Turns out that the only way to do it is to send them in for replacement.

Ouch! That would suck for anyone who would want to do a custom woodie in the future (Headphile, MCA and the like).

You could always carve something into it....

So, they fix (some) of the first generation's problems, drop the wood for a massive decrease in costs and charge 80% more. Clearly, we bought too many LCD2's. smily_headphones1.gif

:k701smile:

the LCD-X is better than LCD-2, but the LCD-2 is definitely the better bang-for-the-buck here. and the Hifiman HE-500 even more.
