Good point, the BHA-1 is also another great SS option.

The same holds true of going with a local dealer instead of manufacturer direct.

 Yes, valid points.

I'm still enjoying the BHA-1 as well. The LCD-X don't need this much power, but I can't argue with the sound.

I'm waiting for the first impressions on the new Violectric V-281, supposedly available in early June.

The v281, Ragnarok and GSK MkII are on my shortlist!

Someone I trust compared it directly to the Taurus and he liked the Taurus, thought it was good performer for the money. He thought the Luxman was one of the absolute best amps available at any price.

A dealer a few hours away has the Soloist so I will likely give it a listen as it is the cheapest on the list and he also has the Audezes for sale. Thanks for the feedback.

I found the Luxman way too laid back and smooth with the LCD-X. However it sounded amazing with the Taurus II.

LCD-X owners may be interested to know that I have just taken delivery of an Artisan Silver 'Silver Dream' new headphone cable for my X's,

I had the cable customised with a balanced 4 pin XLR configuration  to use the balanced output on my Auralic Taurus mk2 headphone amp.

I wanted to have an alternative all silver option to use with the X's and Taurus as opposed to the Copper offering that ships with the X's. The fact that the new cable is 3m long is also a bonus as I find the Audeze cable just a touch too short and has no slack whatsover when I listen across the other side of my room to where my rig is.

Its early days yet but even at this early stage I can hear audible improvements in the performance of the X's. There is a greater clarity to voices, particularly female. On well recorded material they just sound holographic and crystal clear.

What took me a little by surprise was the bass slam and the amps rhythm and drive have not been affected one iota......I thought the bass might lose some of its impact compared with the copper cable....but no. If anything it is even tighter with even more impact.

This Artisan 'Silver Dream' cable is a real upgrade for the X's and although not cheap I consider money well spent and I now have a choice depending on what mood I am in. The cables are hand made on a little Island off the coast of the UK called the Isle Of Wight and cost £399 ( $674) and are shipped post free anywhere in the world.

Link to the company below if any body is interested in letting their LCD-X's reach their absolute full potential.

By the way I also have a pair of the Artisan Silver Ultimate Silver Dream balanced XLR cables connecting my Taurus amp and my Benchmark Dac2 HGC. These are also superb pure 8 strand silver cables.....The combination of everything coming together in some amazingly wonderful symbiotic oneness is making me giddy when I listen!

Installed the micro-suede headbands to my X and XC, a very easy swap.  Much more comfortable then the leather headband and go very well with the suede earpads.  Together these feel much better and sound better then the leather IMHO.

Nice find on that cable. I use two of their interconnections myself and Toxic Silver Widow Cables for my phones.

Its a myth that copper cables do bass better than silver IMO. I have only known that to be the case on cheap systems that are lacking bass in the first place.

That said, if you're well set on a DAC, my top amp preferences for the X right now would be the Auralic Taurus or GSX-MkII.
Nice one mate im saving up for the lcd x now to go with my Hugo I've bought,i've got the sennheiser ie 800 iem s and hope the lcd x are a jump up,im gonna..take my Hugo to a audeze dealer for a demo soon

the little ifi ican amp sounded great with the X, and its cheap

You know, I am sitting here listening to my Alpha Dogs through my micro ifi iCAN and thinking it really is pretty darn good for $260. I was planning on getting an end game amp like a Cavallli or GS-X before new headphones, but seeing as the LCD-X is easier to drive than the ADs I may just get the cans first and take my time looking for an amp.

Dear Gray -

Thanks for your response.

Now I'm interested in the Taurus amp but their website is a bit confusing.

Agree the X is an outstanding can all round - enjoying jazz on 'em as I type this note. :-)

All the best -
