I don't seem to be able to find any threads relating to this subject.

I have no experience with EF-6 but I have EF-5 that I made some modifications to it ( see this link:  http://www.head-fi.org/t/711004/hifiman-ef-5-headphone-amplifier-mods-and-rolls#post_10431742 ).  The combination is really good and I don't find the SQ is too much on the warm side. As EF-6 is a step better than EF-5 I am sure it should match with LCD-X well.

Thanks one and all for your replies.

I would still like to hear from anyone else who actually owns...or has owned this combo. It is not easy for me to have a demo of the amp with my X's as the guy who is selling it lives at the other end of the country to me.

Oh well I will hang fire for a while and see if any one else chips in on here. He is in no hurry to sell as he is still in the process of deciding which tube amp to purchase anyway.

I will have to amuse myself by listening to my X's for a while why I wait for replies......

Damn!!....such hardship!    :frown:

Possibly a stupid question but what finish is that on the head-fi homepage? Looks much nicer than the one Audeze have in stock.

If you're referring to the LCD-X photo, I think it's showing the gray metal rings, which were an option early on; as far as I understand now, they are no longer available.

i was wondering the same thing, the limited copper finish !!!

perhaps the shooter got a little carried away with the lightning

check out this gallery, portrays the color better: http://www.head-fi.org/g/a/830413/

Yep, discontinued:

well, from the photos and videos, the black does definitely not appeal to me on the lcd-x, to much of it, so i got myself a 2nd hand gunmetal, instead of a new black

on the other hand, lcd-xc's wood really clash with the gunmetal, much better in black

The XC I had on load was gunmetal with iroko cups, and it looked really nice in person.

i don't know, maybe there is a plan to offer more option, for both lcd-x and lcd-xc, in the future, an all wood lcd-xc or other metal finishes for both, i believe they opted for the black only more because of the supply than the demand

...right, when I ordered mine directly from Audeze there still was the gunmetal version... already mentioning on their web-page that delivery time due to supply lead time for gunmetal was several weeks (not sure anymore, but I think it was around 5 weeks longer than the black...). Since I didn't want to wait that long I ordered black, and didn't regret it. Looks really nice.
Anyway, shortly after I ordered, the gunmetal disappeared. So right or wrong, I came to the conclusion that the ultimate reason was an issue in the supply-chain...

...as much as I like them the way they are arranged on the pic with their different wood-colors, I totally agree with figaro... to me the gunmetal looks so completely displaced between the wood-cups and the black leather....
