This will be my first tube amp ever :D .

Can't wait for your impressions with LCD-X. Tried the T1 once  but I wasn't so impressed by them. They are too bright for me.

How do you like your taboo compared to Burson Soloist and the others in your collection?

Looks like you are bringing in the big bad boys for battle.  By the way, I use the Philips rectifier that is sold at Upscale Audio...I have the RCA5yGT and the Philips beats it by a mile (based on my taste), even though the RCA is fine (i.e., it would be the best if the Philips did not exist!).  The RCA is warmer and punchier...the Philips is airy and opens the soundstage, which works wonders for Classical Music, which I almost exclusively listen to).  Both are great, but the thing is that I prefer airy with bigger soundstage.  You are gonna have so much fun rolling tubes!!! By the way, my current tubes are the Philips rectifier, two EL84 Tungsram tubes (the best EL84s I've heard, again courtesy of Upscale Audio), and a GE5751 five star (black plates, 1957) driver tube.  My god, the sounds this makes with the T1 are just unbelievable.

Just ordered a new DAC to compare to the Gungnir.     Dangerous Music Source.   I'm looking forward to hearing how well it pairs with my amps and the LCD-X.   It should be here on Wednesday.

Look's like CNET just posted Steven Guttenberg's review here:

http://news.cnet.com/8301-13645_3-57614785-47/more-proof-the-worlds-best-headphones-are-made-in-the-us/

Seems to be the same as the consensus around here, LCD-X is more dynamic and transparent than the LCD-3, on top of being easier to drive. LCD-3 is more warm and natural sounding, both are worth strangling every last dollar bill from your wallet to acquire wink.gif

Another quasi-useless review from Steven Guttenberg..
He might actually be the only guy who find the LCD-2 big and spacious sounding...

Seriously, there's nothing here to really describe the sound or compare it to the competitors. It's pure advertisement and that "USA make the best headphone" thing is quite irritating...

Don't get me wrong, the LCD-X is still on my must listen list and I'm sure it's a great headphone. This honest, not diplomatic biggrin.gif

Fully agree.

I'm a big Audeze fan but they're miles from sounding big & spacious.

Guttenberg hasn't heard a headphone he hasn't liked! hehehe! But still, he is miles ahead of 6moons.

He wrote that he has been using LCD2 as reference headphones for the last four years. No wonder then that he finds LCDX amazing, LCD2 are stunningly overrated headphones with zero spacial projection of instruments and voices and with the tonality from the six feet under.

If you know how to read between the lines there are actually quite a lot of information in 6moons reviews. You just need a filter for the prose and metaphors biggrin.gif.

Yeah Guttenberg does tend to wax it on pretty thick, some of his reviews read like advertisements. But I will take his reviews over that Srjan guy at 6moons, his reviews are a bit bombastic for me, though like you said, quite informative, it just sounds like he is trying to write the last great american novel instead of an equipment review.

Sorry, can't be bothered reading a Guttenberg or 6 Moons' review, but when he says "big and spacious" is he referring both adjectives to soundstage ?  I think the LCD-2's DO sound "big" (big as in "weighty"), but certainly NOT "spacious" ...

A filter?  More like a cryptographer!

LCD2 is good, but reference?  What is Guttenberg smoking? I love my LCD2s, but reference they are not!
