Just gonna throw my 2 cents in about the 770. I believe them to be pretty good, but it depends on use.

Gaming? CAL! 2

Music? Beyerdynamic

Both? CAL! 2

How does CAL 2 to be overstated if it costs less and has similar performance to the 770?? Mah

CAL 2 is the real antagonist of the 770 pro...right?

Would you say the cal2 is an overall downgrade in sound quality from the beyer dt770 80ohms? Finally got the refund from my beyers, I want alot better mids than the beyers offered and more punch to the mid bass. It would be between these the beyer dt880s or the denon d600's. Running off a fiio e10.

Have not heard the Cal2s but did own the DT-880 600 ohm,  For me there is not mid bass punch in the 880s nor an up front midrange.  Closest to that description is a Shure 840.

Ah I wouldn't touch the shure 840s again, they gave me extreme discomfort out of all the headphones I have tried over the last 4 months those were the worst. Very heavy, and the clamp gave me constant head aches.  I got them for $90 second hand at the local guitar shop(had only been used a couple of weeks) when I visited my gran in the states. They had to go back 3 days later.

Thanks for this. I'm in the market for closed cans. Looking at both the SRH-840's, CAL! 2, and Ultrasone Pro 550 (if that's worth the extra cash at all). It will be used for gaming and some music mainly. Despite the discomfort, do you remember how the 840's isolation was?

Very good, I don't think any sound leaked out at all. Also, you could not hear anything form the outside, that must be due to the heavy clamp. I couldn't hear my self hammering my mechanical keys while playing mmo's, nor my gtx 780's fans while I had them on even if I wasn't listening to anything through them.

Just received the cal2's and imo they are very congested, there is little to no soundstage. Which is a massive disappointment, coming from the dt770's(which I thought were to congested aswell) I am really let down.

For some reason, they are no where near as punchy as the original cals in the mid bass either. I feel like they are a side grade to the original cals and no where near the double price tag that they command. The are very stylish for sure, but if that counted then we would all be buying beats.

I will give them a few days, though that and the cable are probably an instant return for me.

Heck! I was almost convinced to buy them but now I have some doubt ...

I am most likely being to critical but at this price they are not worth it, the thing that made the cals very popular and a community favourite/recommendation was that for the price you could get them at(£50) they sounded amazing. They were such a great budget buy that punched way above its price tag.

These however command double the price at £100 and do no have anywhere near enough of a sound upgrade to justify the price. You are paying for the style and updated build quality, at this price tag there are just to many competitors out there. I would take the dt770's over these for the extra £20-£30 they cost.

Has anyone had a chance to compare the CAL!2 to a pair of hd25-1 ii's?

The Creatives sit very close price wise to the hd25-1 ii Basic edition.

(I'm guessing that the CAL!2's have more bass, better soundstage but less bass impact..?)
