HD650 compared to HD600

Hello all I was lent a pair of HD600 from Jimmy (thegunner100) to compare against my HD650. I used a variety of music, first with hard rock, then dubstep, then jrock, then soft rock, and lastly rap. Honestly its very noticeable that these cans are brothers, HD650 has more bass, HD600 is more neutral, HD650 has more detail in bass heavy music, HD600 has more detail and is more natural sounding for rock music. The equipment used was the following: iMac 27inch Late 2012, Audio-gd NFB-10ES2 (fed via USB and Toslink), 4 pin balanced xlr out using mogami/canare cables. High gain setting used, volume kept around 10. I used music ranging from 44000Hz to 192000Hz, and just about all music was 24bit, expect the rap music. Bob Marley's Is this love? sounding great! I had it in 24/192 from HDtracks. This is not a professional review. No trolls. This is a simple comparison.

My scale:

King

Excellent

Great

Good

Okay

Bad - The HD600 and HD650 are never going to be bad lol

Santana - Abraxas

HD650 - Great

More bass, instrument separation is a little more rolled off. Drums sound great, reminds me of my LCD-2's.

HD600 - Great

More neutral, more natural sounding (not as natural sounding as planars :) Less bass, but sounds worse with Haruchin Bass 128/192 mp3's than HD650.

The White Stripes - Elephant

HD650 - Good

Sounds better, typical of HD650 to handle lower quality recordings better though.

HD600 - Okay

Sounds more airy, but also more distant and overall sounds worse IMO. Less bass, slam is not as good either. Faster though.

Bob Marley- Is this love?

HD650 - Excellent

Typical with slower music, this sounds amazing. It sounds like Bob is right in front of me. Great soundstage, excellent vocals. Supurb.

HD650 - Great/Excellent

Soundstage seems prominent, but Bob sounds more distant, like I'm in the back of a concert. Is this referred to as imaging? If so, then it is not as good as HD650 in that regard.

Daft Punk - Random Access Memories

HD650 - Excellent

More bass, impressive, sounds fantastic. Vocals a little robotic sounding when compared with HD600.

HD600 - King

Better more quality bass. Impressive. Vocals sound more natural. I feel the presentation is better too. Lots of micro-details (guitar stums that I didn't hear before etc. IMO I prefer the HD600 over LCD-2 for this album.

Imagine Dragons - Night Visions

HD650 - Good

More bass. Boomy sounding. Good instrument separation. IMO that fact that I couldn't hear much difference at all, leads me to believe this is a poor recording despite this being a FLAC from CD.

HD600 - Good

Leaner bass. Boomy sounding. Good instrument separation. IMO that fact that I couldn't hear much difference at all, leads me to believe this is a poor recording despite this being a FLAC from CD.

Eminem - Survival - mp3 (I know I should've found a FLAC version)

HD650 - Good

Excessive bass, yelling, typical characteristics of rap.

HD600 - Good

A bit leaner but still excessive bass, yelling, typical characteristics of rap.

J-Music coming soon.

Nice review, but you have some typos where you reference HD650 twice when one of them should be the HD600.

Example:

"The White Stripes - Elephant

HD650 - Good

Sounds better, typical of HD650 to handle lower quality recordings better though.

HD650 - Okay

Sounds more airy, but also more distant and overall sounds worse IMO. Less bass, slam is not as good either. Faster though. "

I like both the HD600 and HD650, but for me the AKG K712 Pro is more speaker-like and even across the frequency spectrum.  The HD600/650 are excellent headphones that scale very well with technically better equipment.
