Sony MDR-10R Impressions Thread - Page 8

Hello guys. I seriously need your help. It seems amazon has reduced the price of the 10R which is cool. The problem now is that i'm on a really tight budget and i can spend $50 at most on headphones. I already own an MDR-XB500 but i only use it at home cause its TOO BIG and the bass is a bit overwhelming. I've been investigating the MDR-ZX600 for some weeks now, it had some very nice reviews, its not big and its going for $48 on Amazon. I already made a choice to go with the ZX600 but seeing the price of the 10R reduced to $99, im having second taughts.

I can stretch my budget and be able to get the 10R but i don't know if its really worth it and if its too big. Keep in mind, The XB500 is too big for me (i attract too much attention when using them) and also i'm in need of a balanced output.

The MDR-ZX600 may be an ideal headphone for you. It pretty well balanced, but of course being a "mainstream" headphone, there is a bit of bass to it. I like the aluminum disc design of the ear cups, but dislike the Y cable.

Since the ZX600s are on ear and the 19Rs are over ear, I prefer the latter. Plus, it has better balanced output,

definitely get to 10r. very balanced worth the money, and very low profile over ear. I'm positive you will love them over the zx

I've done some more listening on the 10R and I have to say my opinion has not changed.

I would not feel comfortable recommending the 10R even at $100. The sound signature is skewed in a very unnatural way. It's not even so much a question of preference - the headphone just sounds stuffy and vocals unnatural.

The Sony ZX701iP has a more natural tone and is worth looking at as an extremely well priced alternative for a circumaural portable phone, though it does lack bass compared to the 10R.

There's also some very strong and I would say better competition to the 10R even at the $100 price point. The Audio Technica ES700, Sennheiser 4X9 series, the Logitech UE6000, the Skullcandy Aviator are all portable headphones which I would say deliver a more natural sound.

I'm really very disappointed in the 10R especially when the 1R was such a good effort from Sony.

The one thing that the 10R has going for it is comfort, but that's really moot considering that isolation on the 10R is also poor for portable use anyway.

I do not agree with you, the sound signature I looks good and the only thing I noticed is that it lacks a bit more extention on the bass.

and noticed that if you are using the headset too tight to the head loses sound quality and also with the result that comfort is lost.

My previous headset was a mdr-v55 that sound good but have much bass for my taste, when using the mdr-10r sound was much better and broader than the md-v55. I'm not even audiophile was between mdr-10r and the bose AE2 and the price of $ 100 I went for el10r, also have a xba-1 single use small noise isolation earbuds because I listen to this excellent band.

for now I have no complaints mdr-10r its sound is homeliness and are comfortable, it is clear that there are better headphones.

had the MDR-ZX600 Sound was good but lacked bass so the change for mdr-v55 which sounded much better, for my taste at the time the mdr-ZX600 what consegi in $ 35 and mdr-v55 at $ 50 the mdr-v55 I use to play quake live or listen to music once in a while but not so much for music because I use the mdr-10r now

If your previous headset was the V55, I can see why you think the MDR-10R is good. The 10R is definitely an upgrade over the V55. The V55 is really poor in my opinion. And don't get me wrong - I love my bass - but the V55 is sloppy. It's also has a disappointingly cheap build and the earpads aren't fantastic.

I'm curious if you like your XBA-1?

after reading several review on the web that gave a desente score went by them on headphones mdr- v55 does not sound bad but the bass was as much to me felt like drowning a little music in there was not defined clearly and sound but lacked breadth and definition . Before this I had a MDR - ZX600 sound was good and clear but lacked the bass I had were very minor .

Regarding xba -1 when you buy the really use the earbuds that comes standard at first sound I heard was very metallic and means very high, good reading on the web , I found that I could improve the sound by changing the earbuds , so it deals with different earbuds and noise isolation earbuds (small) was the improved full sound of xba -1 sound is nice clear wide sounds totally different you can hear the bass that did not have all our pleasant mid and light the improved better treble sounded balanced and natural . Clearly not cut in the treble and bass so there are xba -3 and 4, but the sound is xba -1 has very nice addition that cost me only $ 30.

I listen to electronica, rock , pop, anime music and others.

was ultimately improves mdr-10r for me the difference was noticeable the mdr-v55 was uncomfortable and noisy the plastic like an old boat was more evil than the sound itself.

I'm hoping to try the xba-h1 because h3 are too expensive, I also want to try the mdr-10RC here in my country there is not much variety of headphones and use so I do not have many good options and are not very expensive.

want to add that I do not use any kind of equializacion to listen to music on any device.

I have the Sony MDR-10RNC, my god it sound so S***** when the ANC is off. It sound so muffle and the bass is every where, I really want to try the 1RNC but I dont know if I can give sony a chance on anything again, I have their TV's, Smartphone and now their Headphones, all were crap to say the least. I'm not trolling, Matter of fact I'm selling the 10RNC if anyone want to get it for cheap. Maybe its not for me after I been spoil with the Sennheiser PXC 450 for so long.

one positive thing I would say is when the ANC is on, it works real good at cancelling out the outside noise, to the point where I was feeling a little bit uncomfortable.
