New member and a couple questions.

Greetings,

I found Head-Fi while doing research to find a better set of IEMs than the old crappy Sony whatevers I had, and settled on the Vsonic VC02 a couple weeks ago.  I simply love them.  I am having a hard time with tips, mostly because I think I have two different sized ear canals!  One set of tips will fit and seal better on one side, another set will be reversed.  I'm now mixing the sets and trying to find the best fit on a per ear basis.  The double flange tips that come with the VS02s are REALLY close and I'm still trying to work with them as well.

I've also been enjoying a pair of Grado SR-60s, with mostly portable sources, for going on 10 years.  Unfortunately a few days ago they suffered a "child induced mishap" and I deemed them too far gone to bother to send back to Grado.  Very heart bereaking...they've been with me a long time :(  So long story short I found a pair of Alessandro MS2is locally on craigslist and picked them up yesterday.  I'm very happy with them....the little EQ I'd do with the SR-60s on the low and high end is no longer necessary AND I think the mids are better as well.  Overall much more balanced than the SR-60s to my ears.

I've also decided to jump in and get the Schiit Modi/Magni stack to use with the MS2is and a portable DAC/AMP to use at work with the VC02s.

So the questions I had:

1) I'm used to the SR-60s with portable sources.  I know the MS2is are better...but when I add the Modi/Magni will it be a revelation?

2) There are so many options for portable DAC/AMPs.  Given I have the VC02s does someone have a recommendation on that front?

3) Is it normal to mess around with IEM tips for weeks?  I don't know if I'm being very picky or I have hard-to-fit ear canals?

Thanks to all who have posted in the past that have guided me to this point.

-Keith

EDIT: Oh, and one other thing...can anyone recommend a case for the Alessandros?  Might prevent the "child induced mishap" occurring with these :)

First of all, WELCOME TO HEAD FI!

Hope you become part of the community quickly.

I can answer number 3 for you. And yes, i would say its normal if you are working for a perfect fit. I have the same issue where i use a midium single flanged in my left ear and a small double flanged in my right. But you have to work it out. If it takes u a long time, well that just means ur ears are oddly shaped. But getting the fit perfect is key, and if you want to enjoy your music, consider it time well spent!
