Does something like this exist

A portable or Desktop transport for your music.

A device to just hold music, to output to DAC (portable or desktop) to AMP (portable or desktop) to what ever you like speakers, headphones.

What I was thinking of.

1. Just holds music with removeable storage.

2. Output to: usb, spdif, and or balanced. streaming wifi

3. simple user interface like fubar2000 , deadbeef, audacious, gmusicbrowser.

4. Running  custom linux android

5. long battery life

6. touch screen, size like ipod

8. does nothing other then store and output music.

is there anything like this ?

Thanks.

I'm not sure if I understand, isn't that just an android music player with digital out?

Samsung has something like that based on their S series of phones, and Sony has Android based walkman. Digital out is rather rare until you go to the expensive side of things, although FiiO has that E18 coming out which works with USB-OTG I believe.

To my understanding, no nothing like that exists.

Since people want more than just "playing and outputing music" and they wouldn't be popular as people want a lot of features in a small form factor.

The best thing that I could see matching your criteria is the Fiio E18 but that hasn't been released yet i believe.

Consider some Cowon products too. I'm pretty sure they have 1 product which uses an Android OS and Cowon are renowned for having high battery life.

I have seen what you are suggesting but all of them if you hook up headphones will work . I am looking for I guess a source that just holds music and out puts. Is that it runs what ever, I am sorta looking for a modular portable or desktop source so I can have one device that has all my music then I can hook it up to any DAC any amp any headphones any speakers.

Something that you can connect a hard drive or USB flash drive or SDHC memory card to.

That can output using Wi-Fi, USB, optical, coaxial and analog output.

Like a Media Player or Media Hub.

Maybe a Notebook laptop using Linux?

An iPad (or iPad like device) running Linux?
