Great post, thegrobe!

I have an increasing discomfort to get off my chest...

Hi, my name is Lachlan and I'm a gearaholic. Although my system is already great, I feel like my DAC is the weak link. I've decided to get the Matrix X-Sabre, but the local supplier's waiting for the shipment. I've asked for an ETA about once a week, but can't get a definite answer. I'm now starting to try to find other ways to spend the cash, but really don't want to so I can afford the X-Sabre immediately when it arrives. I'm really struggling! 😌

I need some Crack bad! Nothing quite like some glowing Crack pipes to warm my 650's :-P. can't wait to contrast my relatively " hard" sounding Asgard 2 with the Bottlehead.

I think I did the insane thing recently by selling off my Stax SRM-T1, with both of my SR-Lambdas soon to follow. I like them, I really do...

...but money's too tight to mention, and I'm finding the Sony MDR-MA900 a comfortable step down that doesn't seem to leave me longing for the SR-Lambda nearly as much as the HE-400 and SR-202 did.

Meanwhile, if there is something I really do regret ever having to part with, it was my hotrodded Thrustmaster HOTAS Cougar setup. Force-Controlled Cougar stick mod, replacement handle screws, improved paddle switch, UTM bushings and Hall sensor in the throttle, RCS pedals with a Hall sensor mod...very much one-of-a-kind gear there.

My current HOTAS Warthog suffices in its place for the most part, but there are some things I do miss having a proper force-sensing stick for, and the FSSB R3's out of the question right now.

Then there's the matter of my GTX 480, which just died and left me with nothing more to use than an old 8800 GT. I'm not happy about that, to say the least, even if I bought the GTX 480 well into its obsolescence. (Hey, it was a cheap upgrade!)

I know, that's not specifically Head-Fi, but it goes to show you that once you're used to enthusiast-grade gear of any sort, it's hard to go back. Doesn't have to be headphones!

Oh no not the Crack! That Schiit is downright addictive. I think the best advice here comes from Biggie http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=85YIezL8Q9A

If you want a DAC the Meier Daccord is seriously good.  No knock on the Sabre but I love the Wolfson sound.

I love the Wolfson sound too which is why I'm going for the X-Sabre. From all I've read, it has a musical presentation (like many Wolfson setups) rather than the normal hyper detail approach of many ESS setups.

One more day and I'll be united, finally, with my Alpha Dogs!! It's been a long wait as I was on the test committee for the betas. Now the brand new production model is almost here. One more day...

Hey guys!

I just wanted give you a little bit of advice...something that helps me through the tough times.

I really think one of the great things about music is that you can find an artist, or even just a single song, where it just feels like for that one moment, they really "get" you. One of those songs for me is Dreaming With a Broken Heart by John Mayer. I remember back a long time ago, I had put together my dream home theater system....a full complement of Paradigm Studio speakers. Well, one day my ex-wife just up and decides to become a cheating, lying [naughty word], and we end up getting a divorce. So sadly, I had to part ways with my beautiful speakers...and each day after that...as I stared at those square imprints on the carpet where the Paradigms used to reside, I would sometimes doze off into a half-sleep, and when I'd start to wake up, just for a minute I thought maybe they were there...back where they belong! If only I had had this song back then...it really would have helped. After all, one of the truisms in life is that John Meyer gets it...John understands our pain.

So how did the story end? Well, I happened to meet a girl named Maggie...she's from snowy Minnesota but she flew all the way down to Georgia to meet me. And since that day back in 2005 when I took a chance on her, we've been making beautiful music ever sense! (Well, actually she handles the music part...I just sit back and relax.)

Rest assured my head-fi friends...we will undoubtedly go through periods of separation and pain...and we may find ourselves dreaming with broken hearts...but in case that lost loved one never returns, you just never know if there's another Maggie just waiting to meet you!

hang in there!!!

You got it! That will make her day! :D

Matt: That would have been a travesty, wouldn't it? Thankfully a college student and his girlfriend drove all the way from the Florida panhandle to buy them from me...so that's another aspect of the story that was a happy ending...they got to find a great new home and I had a little more money for legal fees  lol
