VSONIC GR99 replacement

Hi all!

I've got VSONIC GR99 which are good, but I want to replace them with something a little bit better. GR99 gives too much treble to my ears especially with voice which has noticeable hiss. My budget is 70-80$ and I want to stick with VSONIC brand since they seem to have the best price/performance ratio if I get all the reviews right. Currently I'm conisdering GR06, will I get a better sound compared to GR99? Or are there any better options which fit in the budget?

Thanks a lot in advance :)

Anyone please?

Seriously, no one? I'm also considering VSONIC VC02 and Astrotec AM-90.

I have the VC02, but not the GR99 so I can't give you a comparison, but I do rate the VC02 highly if you want a neutral sound.  Another option from Vsonic would be the VDS1 or VDS1S.

Thanks for the comment. Neutral sound is always a good thing, imho. I'll probably go for VC02 then.

If you think the GR99 has too much treble, then I don't think any Vsonic would be for you, as the GR99 is reviewed to have the least treble of all their models. Are you sure yours have had enough break-in? They shouldn't have excessive treble, mine certainly don't. Maybe look up the Id America Spark for a little less than your budget, or Sony XB90EX for a little more.

Actually I didn't do any dedicated burn-in, just listened. Now you got me thinking that may be the volume I listen at is too low for a proper burn-in.

Sony XB90EX is well over budget and I don't need an excessive bass. But id America Spark looks interesting, will check, I've never heard of them before.

Thanks for advice!

As mentioned, if the GR99 is too trebly - you wouldn't want to look at the VC02. Perhaps you have a bad fit with the latter....

After careful reading of VSONIC-related info on this site it looks like the excessive treble problem (especially noticeable in vocals) should go away with a good and long burn-in indeed. There is a lot of talk about the very same problem in the dedicated VC02 thread. So I'm giving a try to VC02 which will be heard from my cupboard for the next 3-4 days.
