Sennheiser 280HD Pro problem, please someone help.

Hey guys!

I have a pair of Sennheiser HD280 Pro and now one of the cups are not working. The cup that dosn't work is the right one, it does work if I put pressure on it. I will include a picture of where I press it with my hand for it to work. The problem is I can't sit and enjoy music the same time as I have to press the right cup to my ear. I tried to insert the image now but I don't have permission to do it, not sure why. I don't want to purchase new ones because they are quite expensive and I imagine there is a cheap way to fix them, but my question is... how?

What do I need to do to fix them? Is the soldering wrong? What could it be?

Thanks in advance lads, I appreciate all the help I can get. I am a student and not made of money.

Cheers!

So when you press on the jack you get sound on the right side, or when you press on the cup? Either way soldering should fix it.  It looks like they have a one sided cable so you'll need to do more trouble shooting to figure out where the short is.   I've never heard or even seen a 280 so I can't really help you with how they're wired.

If you can take the cup apart and get a look at the wires, you might have a better idea of what's wrong. Sounds like wire or solder point is broken somewhere. For a ghetto solution, maybe you could tightly wrap some tape around the cup to keep pressure in the right position? Otherwise, you will have to solder. Opening the headphones up to find the problem spot without breaking anything will probably be the hardest part.

+1

Get a good grip on the earpad and just pull it off. Underneath there will be two screws to take out, unscrew those. Next, be a little careful to not twist the plate either which way, just pull it straight off. Under that, you will see the driver and the connections.
