Is There Any Way To Use A DAC Without A Desktop/Laptop

The title says it all.

Many dacs have spdif (coaxial or optical inputs). You can use them to feed the dac from sources with coaxial or optical outputs, like: media players, TVs, CD or DVD players with digital output

Heya,

The real question is... do you need a DAC if you're not using a digital source? Do you want to simply go all analog. You know, super hi-fi. Or are you just talking about using something like a CD player or SACD player or something like that, and not a computer?

Very best,

Yes, all analog(I think at least). Id like the DAC to actually convert the digital signal to the analog.

Heya,

All analog means Vinyl.

The DAC is only needed for a digital source to make an analog signal. You cannot listen to anything that is not made into an analog signal anyways. The only source you can use that is literally all analog is a vinyl setup. The moment you start using CD's and other sources, or your ipod/iphone or whatever, you're using digital. And they all have built-in DAC's to turn those 0's and 1's into a sine wave.

Yeah, digital is what I meant. Perhaps straight from a flash drive/hard drive.

...... what?

You're going to need to really tell use exactly what you have, and how you want to use it.

Is this a joke? It doesn't sound like something that a near-Supremus with 1400+ posts would ask.

No, you need a transport to read/decode the digital file and send it to the DAC. It doesn't have to be a computer - it could be an MP3 player, iPad, etc.

No, you misunderstood me. This is what I meant:

Flash drive to (X) to dac to amp

What is (X) if (X) is not a PC/laptop.

Now I see what your talking about, that'd be a crazy question.

X can be a OTG capable device, like an android phone or a dap like the dx50.

The dx50 last time I checked costed $1000.

He already has a smart phone, so another would be a waste. I can't think of anything with digital audio out.

Guess the x3 is the only option.

Dx50 is only $26Xish shipped from China to the USA. You are probably thinking the DX100 which is still less than $1000

This is a strange thread =/
