Needing help setting up 300-600U$ gear

Hi guys,

Its my first post, although I've been reading (and trying to understand) this forum for some time now.

-Mostly, I'll be listening to music (rock, jazz and classical - don't know if it ends up sounding vague, but anyway, mostly rock, and 80% of the time led zep, cream or lou reed), but I also watch movies quite frequently, but I'll not be playing any FPS. Other than that, I think I'd rather listen to music in speakers than in headphones.

-I use a laptop with Zalman ZM-RSSC V2 which I think is pretty awful, so I'd be needing a new soundcard or a DAC (am I right in thinking that I only need one or the other?), Other than that, do I need an amp as well, or a receiver?

-I live in a 30m² one-ambient apartment with 4m-high walls. Also, I'm from Brazil, which means some (or most) speakers will be hard to find (but please, do suggest).

-What I praise the most in sound is it being well-spacialized/detailed (specially during distortion - being euphonic, is that what it's called?) yet being full/juicy, that is, well-embodied. Well, at least the most I can get for the price I'm willing to pay.

(Have I forgot anything I'd need in terms of hardware?)

Well, thanks in advance.

Are you looking for IEM's or headphones? The $300-600 budget is for both phones and DAC/soundcard? What type of SQ do you like?

Hi zamorin,

I'm actually looking for computer speaker boxes, and yes, the 300-600$ budget would have to cover both soundcard and speakers.

And excuse my noobness, but what do you mean by SQ? If it means sound quality, well, a way to say it is that I like it dynamic and detailed, yet juicy.

Thanks

I got the klipsch promedia 2.1 speakers for about $200 but I believe Aego M is better. Both are PC speakers. SQ meant sound quality. For the AMP/DAC combo, try to check out schiit modi/magni combo but since the Aego M/Klipsch already has an AMP in the sub woofer unit probably the AMP is not required else there will be double amping. Here's a good thread:
