Are Clou cables the best?

I just ordered Sennheiser HD600 phones and I want to upfrade the cable. I understand that of the few cable upgrade pths available that Clou is the best. True?

Also they make a Red and a Blue and the difference appears top be the sheilding. Are there other differences? I live in a rather small town but I will be using a Cary 300SEI as a Headphone Amp. Do I need the extra sheilding offered by the Red - I understand that this sheilding is stiff and can lead to some discomfort.

Thanks

If you have the money, get the Red, they look cooler.
I think they're wonderful, really makes the HD600 shine even more.
You'll have to ask jude about the new cables for the Senns...
If they cost more than the Clous, I doubt they sound any better or worse, the hell with it, the Clou looks better based from pictures.

I'd hold out for the Cardas cables, they have quite a good reputation. Also the Clous use a silver plated conductor whcih can make the sound bright/fatiguing (take it with a grain of salt, I've not hear them) whereas Cardas uses pure copper. Also leads to skin effect where more electrons travel on the surface of the conductor.

We don't know. Most of us haven't tried the Cardas nor the Stephan Art Audio.

If you have the money (and it's only like US$30), get the red. Then you won't wonder if you should have gone that last little bit more. I think the blue is only for people like me, who are stingy.

It is my understanding that both the red and the blue are an order of magnitude more stiff than the stock cable (I have the blue). There might be subtle differences between the two, but they both qualify as "stiff".

Note of caution - the Clous are an ergonomic nightmare. They are thick, heavy, the individual leads for each speaker are too short, and the cable doesn't like to be twisted, something I didn't notice with the stock cable. They do sound better (for all the reasons previously mentioned), but I find that many seemingly innocuous head and body movements manage to jar the cable and provide a force on the headphones.

Finally, I've had issues with one side connector frequently becoming loose and falling out, a problem I don't have with the stock cable.

I find them unpleasant unless I'm going to be very still and very near to my amp (which I'm usually not). That said, I'd wait for the longer Cardas, which, from the pictures, appears to have 1/8" plug termination (fits in Corda w/o big, clunky adapter).

I too would like to get the Cardas. I have owned the neutral reference IC, George once even make a phono cable for me - but I heard that George was NOT going to get into the headphone thing and I heard that fairly recently.

I'm not sure who you heard that from, mwb, because I've got Cardas' HD-580/600 replacement cable prototypes on my HD-600's hooked up to my home rig (and they sound fantastic). The final production model should be available soon.

If that's the case Jude I'd sure like to get myself a pair. Any idea when they are going to be released and through whom?

Ummmmmm well my source was a large headfi retailer

Jude, does it in fact terminate with a 1/8 inch plug? Have you done a comparison between the Cardas and the Clous??
See, jude, you should've kept your red Clou cable after all, if for no other reason than to offer a comparison w/ the new Cardas cable. Shame on you for not seeing this event in the future!

I hope that 1/8 termination is an option.

The clous are not that bad ergonomically, but they are bright- in comparison to a regular cabled Senn, but a regular cabled senn is not as bright as a Grado or Sony CD3k... clous put the senns somewhere in the "brighter" spectrum...
