anyone that can help me out on this? How is the dt880 for movies? Can't really find much about that.

My two cents is the DT880s are good for everything.

I own two DT770s, two DT880s & two DT990s,

(my T70s might have been thrown away by accident).

Thanks for the input, i heard a few people say dt880 are bad for movies but didn't say why? So I guess that isn't the case?

could you tell me why? I am a bit worried about the 598's lacking bass impact for movies. I am now picking between a new dt880, new hd 598 or second hand hd 650. Which would be the good allrounder? Watching movies is at least equally important as listening to music for me.

I prefer the DT990 (Bass/treble) for action movies, the mids are slightly overshadows, but the mids are clear.

The DT880 is the more balanced sound and maybe for users that prefer vocals stand out just as much as the bass/treble.

For movies you want a big sound stage.  In this price range I prefer the Q701.  Some think that they don't provide enough bass for explosions and the like in action films.  I like their overall balance, excellent separation of sounds and large sound stage.

The ma900 has that q701 sound stage and that great bass.

I prefer the Q701 over the Sony for movies because I hear a bigger sound stage and greater clarity/better imaging.  However the Sony is also an excellent can and is easier to drive.

So in that context, for movies the HD 598 would be good aswell because of the big soundstage? The only thing that concerns me is the HD 598 bass impact for movies, will it be sufficient?

Yeah, the hd598 and q701 don't have enough bass for me. The dt880 and ma900 are much safer options in my experience since they have enough bass for a broader audience.

It's sound stage is just OK or OK +.  At this level you can find many good cans.  However in the end you have to comprise and get the best package for your needs & preferences and that fits your upline equipment that feeds it.
