V-Moda M-80s at Radio Shack for $40!!! - Page 5

Bought the last pair at Radioshack - what a lucky day! Sound is very good, so I can't imagine how they must sound after breaking in. I love their ruggedness like the braided cord and steel design. I have to buy 2 headphones a year because they can't stop breaking, so I hope this ends that cycle.

More bass . I guess if your a bass head. I tried these hooked up to my clip zip and ipod directly and the bass was really out of control on those players. I had my zips bass eq at -8. Though they do lack the impact (imo) compared to full size headphones. I did find they clean up when paired to an amp, and I am shocked how many details I can hear on my DX100. Granted the ibasso is overkill, as nobody would buy an $800+ player for headphones they paid $40 for.

I have multiple DIY 18"subwoofers in my home theater, and can easily reach 10hz at 100db flat, so yeah I'm a little spoiled when it comes to bass. lol

Yeah I know what that feels like, my dad has 2 18" subwoofers behind one of our couches. Its different when it comes to headphones though. Its easy to overpower one sound or another. I just find that the bass on these are a little uncontrolled and leak into other areas of the sound. I think you are missing the impact of a bigger driver, not quantity of bass. Though the sound cleans up nicely when you amp them. Every one has their own tastes I guess.

Very true. I've only amped them with a tube amp, and wasn't satisfied overall so far. Still needs a lot of burn in, and yes, I am a fan of bigger drivers and powerhouse chinese headphones like Superlux, Somic, and Takstar that are cheap, but easily match ~$200 headphones.

Way of the world. I bet V-Moda is bringing a new model soon. So they are clearing out all stock. You always pay a premium to get stuff early. They have been around ~80-100 for a while on ebay and whatnot.

Maybe just Radioshack clearing out their stock. They've been putting a lot of stuff on clearance in general, I believe for their new business model (with less inventory).

V moda M80s were ~130-140$ on ebay before the radioshack sale.

I was denied a price adjustment at 2 radioshacks today (purchased them for $80 earlier this month). The first one the guy was clueless. He said "I've been working here for two years and we've never done that before". The second store the guy at least knew what they were but said since it was on clearance instead of just a regular sale, I couldn't get the price match.

It can be done! Same thing happened to me. The lazy young worker said there's no way to refund the difference. I asked to talk to a manager. Since their manager already went home for the evening they called another stores manager.
The lazy kid basically didn't know how to process it and the person from the other store walked him through it.
It was treated as an exchange.
Just make sure it's within the return window and you have the card used if you paid with credit. I did not leave that store without someone of authority saying flat out it can't be done or they tried and they cannot.
Good luck to you.

I talked to the manager at the store I purchased mine from and he told me that it was no problem. The receipt gives you a date at the bottom for returns, you have 30 days from the date of purchase to get the difference back.

I'm new to the Forum, just joined now to enter this thread haha. Ever since I bought 2 of the M-80's a few weeks ago, I have done a lot of behind-the-scenes reading here about them. Great neutral sound with slight bass emphasis (~5dB range?)... Great high range for vocals, but I would've preferred a little more Bass to thump a few Techno beats in between. I'm not as articulate as half the Audiophiles here, but I'm cool with that. ;) Head-Fi provides a very comfortable environment for users of all kinds.

Back to my reply.... RadioShack is cleansing a ton of their stock to make room for their new Re-Vamped storefront design. It' wasn't V-Moda's initiative, so this is the only place you'll see the M-80's this cheap for a while.

http://money.msn.com/technology-investment/article.aspx?post=ed05680a-8532-4d54-baec-da0332880d7c

Also, RadioShack is not an Authorized Reseller... So don't know where that leaves us with the warranty, but at these prices, who cares.

http://v-moda.com/verified-resellers/

All RadioShacks in NYC and Long Island are pretty much cleared out... My local manager also refused to price-match, exchange, return/repurchase or whatever.

I have an offer for anyone on L.I. though: I'm using the M-80's now, but I'm craving a pair of M-100's for the deeper bass the bigger drivers provide, while keeping most of the smooth highs the M-80's have. So, I'd like to trade 1 Brand NEW Unopen box of M-80's + 1 open-box (personally used for about 2-3 weeks tops) M-80's for 1 New pair of M-100's...

I've noticed that the M-80's don't adjust well to preset EQ's on my devices. They seem to be made to play each song exactly how it was supposed to sound, with EQ off naturally. The sound-stage for vocals almost sound live, but it will let your ears know when it has to play a poorly recorded track or low quality file. Haven't tried an amp, but heard they don't need one. (still want to invest in one eventually though... when the financial stars align)

It does need some slight EQ though, as it isn't fully neutral. Mids and highs are off a bit compared to other "studio monitor" type headphones. Bass is mostly neutral, and doesn't play well with boosted EQ.

Still, for $40 you won't find too many headphones that can compare for that price.

I was able to get a price adjust done on a pair of M-80's.  I bought them in early September when they were at $79.99.  When I saw that they were selling them for $39.99 now, I wanted to get another pair and have my price adjusted so I went to the store I got them from.  First, they were totally out of new ones - they had about 11 pair left when I bought mine earlier in the month.  I guess people picked them up and really cleared them out when they hit $40.  On the price adjust, at first the girl and guy at the counter said no you can't do that.  I pressed saying I am still within my 30 day window so could return them, and they said yeah but you would be buying them again so can't do it.  Then she said she would check with her manager (who was outside the store for some reason).  He said yes and told her how to do it.  Took a minute and didn't need the box there or anything, only the receipt.

Afterward, since I was only about an avenue form another radioshack, I decided to see if they had any in stock.  Very nice sales assistant helped me. She checked in the computer and there none in stock, but she said they had the V-Moda metal iem's for $6 or $12 depending on whether it had the Apple control on the cord.  But it turns out they were gone. Then she looked and they had a plastic bag under the counter with the last of their clearance headphones.  In the bag as a red and black Soul by Ludacris SL100.   Wasn't that interested, but she said they were only $15, no box as they were a demo unit, but they looked in good shape, and had all the accessories including the case.  So I took it.  I'll probably give them to a friend or family member after I listen to them a bit.

Well I officially received my hard case from V-Moda after I told them I bought from radioshack, and it was missing the case. They sent it priority shipping too. I am impressed with their customer service, its too bad they do not sell any other headphones that I would be interested in. Well they do have the M100s, but they are overpriced imo as there are better options at that range.

It is a very nice case I must say, and it was definitely worth inquiring about them replacing it for me.

Their customer service is phenomenal.  I contacted them a couple of times via their website and have always received a response by email within 10 minutes.  There have been companies that I have tried to contact through their own website and never heard from again, even after leaving my email and phone number.

I will always go out of my way to spend money with companies that take customer service seriously.

After 10 more hours, I gotta say I'm already liking these more. I love the crazy bass of the Crossfade LP, but I like the refinement of these. $40 is an absolute steal if you can still find one.
