New WESTONE W-SERIES - Page 34

What? I don't see how that is relevant. All I'm saying is that I won't give my money to any company who does something like this. I don't see how that is in any way unreasonable.

From your replies to mine and others, it seems to me that you only want believe what you believe and attempts to be an arbiter, passing verdicts on companies.

For example, on post #484, you have stated that:

Notice I said I won't buy UERMs from UE on principle, knowing their shady business practices; I don't particularly care whether it would effect my purchase or not.

You do not care whether UE CIEMs are of great built quality and whether their customer service is brilliant. Rather, you are only concerned about leashing out punishment on UE for the 'misdeeds' you have so convinced that they have committed on the UE900.

My reply to you can amount to a thesis paper. However, understanding your emotions in all these, I don't think any advice given by anyone is worth anything to you. To be honest, I don't get paid by Westone to justify spending my time defending their brand name.

As someone who has had many different IEMs, I can only say that I have anything but praises for Westone products, and I certainly hope that other people will not write them off.

Listen, I respect your opinion; after all we entitled to one and free to express it in this forum.  But you already made this point and expressed your dissatisfaction supported by your own logic.  So, why continue preaching about it?!?  I get it, you want to start a revolution, get people's attention, make them stop buying overpriced headphones until they raised build quality, etc.  And you are using Westone section of the forum as a platform for your campaign lol!!  But just let it go :deadhorse:, or start your own website with a domain to reflect how p!ssed you are :D

At this point I'm just responding to people who are trying, for one reason or another, to get me to shut up about it. I would have stopped a while ago if I wasn't continually accused of having a grudge against Westone or being completely irrational.

I don't see myself as any kind of arbiter; I just wish people had higher standards and didn't settle for less, because for the kind of money we spend on these products, we should be GUARANTEED reliable build quality and thorough service. That's all I am trying to say.

You can attach whatever motive you like to me, which you seem bent on doing, because I refuse to derail this thread any further.

Ok, back on topic, I had the chance to demo the W60 at a local store today, unfortunately they weren't burnt in, for those who don't believe in burn in, they need to go try a pair. In my experience significant changes stop at around 10 - 20 hours for se846, and the particular unit had about 2-3 hours on them. They sounded veiled/muffled more so than my w4r.

Anyway there were aspects that gave me the wow effect, for reference, I had my se846 with white filters and Samsung Galaxy S4 with me.

The first one was a double bass passage, I'm not sure if it's due to the details or timber of the W60, it was extremely realistic, more so than my se846 and my LCD2 powered by the Icon HDP via usb.

The soundstage and instrument separation is large, in my opinion rivals full size headphones although the only instruments that were not affected by the muffled sound were drums and the double bass.

The bass (i'm mainly referring to drums in this section) is significantly better than the w4r in quantity and impact, but slightly loses out to the 846 (note again w60 not burnt in).

Vocals were smooth and reminds me of the w4r.

Overall the impression I got was that it has the signature of the w4r, the unique westone warm sound, with more micro details, definitely more details than the 846 for the double bass passage.

I think the reviews on earphonesolutions lined up with what I heard, clearly I cannot compare the mids and highs like they did since the unit wasn't burnt in. I would also like to add that from what I heard so far, I prefer the voclas on 846, slightly more grainy, which to me, gives male voices more texture.

So I guess that was a demo set of W60s you tried in the store, and they weren't available to buy and take with you yet?

Nice!! Seems like W60 has hit it in the nut! I love the W4R. Only wishing for abit more lows and clarity. Seems like W60 fit the bill!

Well, first off, just want to say what a fantastic forum this is. A huge wealth of knowledge and advice to help the audiophile and non-audiophile out so thank-you for that.

That is what I am, a non audiophile who loves listening to music. I work in a large busy/noisy office so started looking for a decent set of headphones that would help me drown out the office noises which include air conditioning, noisy people on conference calls, general office chatter and such like.

I started with my Apple headphones, and whilst they are ok, I could hear all the nonsense going on around me still. I would have to have them so loud to drown out the noises that I looked at other solutions. I picked up a pair of RHA450i which isolated me more than the Apple headset but still not enough.

I then ordered a set of Bose QC20i which whilst the active noise cancelling was fantastic they induced a kind of motion sickness feeling after a while. I tried to get used to them but unfortunately sent them back. Would just like to say superb customer service from Bose and excellent sound quality when the ANC was switched on. Although when this was off they sounded rather ordinary.

Then my search brought me here to Head-Fi, and somehow into the Westone W Series thread. I looked at various reviews which were all very favourable, once I had downed a few beers I finally built up the courage to hit the order button, importing a pair of the W40's from Earphonesolutions.

I received these yesterday and all I can say is WOW, very impressed. Using the foam tips I get a superb seal in ear and they sound fantastic. The noise isolation is also very good.

These IEM's have reignited my love of music and in the small amount of time I have had them I am noticing more detail in tracks which i'm sure was not there before.

I am currently listening to Cassandra Wilson - Another Country . This a track from a HD Sample album and it sounds amazing. This is something that I would not normally listen to however these headphones make everything much more enjoyable.

I have also been listening to the Michael Jackson Thriller album for the first time in years and the album has got even better listening through these.

Sorry for the long winded post but everytime I listen to these they make me smile.

djayyy - Have you tried the slicone tips?   They seem to really help the treble without any harshness.
