New WESTONE W-SERIES - Page 29

W4(0) has a dip at 5k which can hinder perceived detail; its one reason I won't buy it. Maybe try some eq there.

Even though the sound is warm the details are there, so it's not really veiled, just warm, it'll take a bit of time to adjust, or maybe you won't like it at all. It grew on me after a while, but I just got a ATH-im50 for a brighter sound and more bass, nice contrast sometimes.

I recommend you stick to the silicon star tips and get a decent equaliser and try this:

If it suddenly all opens up, maybe the signature of the w40 is too warm for your, either stick with the eq or try a cheap silver cable. Worst case try another iem like the one I mentioned before.

Thanks! I agree that the details are there. It's in a way similar to Senn HD650s, but in other ways not.

I think I'm getting used to their sound now. But still not sure I will love them by themselves rather than as complementing the IE80s.

I suggest you give the eq a try and see if you like it, if not you need to consider cable change or another iem. life is too short for listening to iems you don't like just because you spent a few hundred dollars on it....

I absolutely love it.  I tend to listen on the louder side and the overly forward midrange of SE535 would always sound like it was screaming at me.  Also, IEM's that are bright or too crisp are fatiguing (at higher volume).  The W40 can be pushed loud with zero distortion.  Luckily the treble is nicely extended so even though the overall sig is warm with a slight lower mid veil, the presentation is still very revealing and transparent with ZERO fatigue.  That's why this IEM works for me.  The lower midrange veil is just one aspect.  As a whole, the W40 is certainly more revealing and transparent than W1, W2, W3, UM2, UM3X.  Smooth and refined.....

Idk, all IEMs I've had that have that lower treble/5k dip, or in the upper treble/10k, just sound lackluster to me. If you look at graphs, that's an area that Etys emphasize deliberately, and part of why they are so detailed and vibrant/realistic sounding.

I find that even my Shure SE215, despite being a bit veiled in the upper highs and having emphasized bass, sounds more realistic and natural than some more expensive phones , which I attribute in part to the fact that they have a peak right there around 5k.

Now if only Ety could source TF10 bass drivers, and put it in a Shure housing...*drool*

Just got word from Earphone Solutions that the W60 is delayed until May 8th :(.

I am beginning to lose faith that I will ever get my W60s. Maybe they could ask santa to bring them if timing works out :P

Yeah sent a photo. This was their reply just now.

Snap, I asked again for confirmation this morning and just got this:

>>  Before sending back to Supplier (over 30 days now) can your technical people confirm it is DEFINATELY a fault (from the pictures I sent you) as another person querying this with Westone has been told it is welding!

Hello,
Thank you for your email. After looking into this further.
The design of the new WS includes seams where the two halves of the case come together at 20° off the midline. This is an intentional design for manufacturing purposes and is not a product defect. Please let me know if you have any additional questions. Have a great day.

Safe to put this to bed now, unpack them, and enjoy the W40s, as I really like them.

Anyone heard the W30s yet?

So is tomorrow the day for the W60s like Earphone Solutions says? I am beginning to think the Roxanne delay is spreading to other IEMs :P (And yes I am just having fun ...no harm meant)

I hope so, or else I will just cancel my order and get a pair of the universal Roxanne from Moon Audio or ALO.

You might as well check out the 846 from a store with a good return policy too. You might find them as amazing as I do without any delays or hassle. If I did not have these IEMs, I may not be so patient.

Now May 30th according to earphone solutions. Wow.
