Thats quite helpful, What about the treble on the UM 50, I am guessing that since people refer to it as warm that it has very smooth or rolled off treble? While my W3 has pronounced sharp highs which I like. Do you remember UM 50 vs W3 treble difference?
Unfortunately no.

I'll go demo it again in the future. Also, it doesn't really have the"wow" factor to it, but it have a pleasant sounding signature.

Don't get me wrong.   W3 was my favorite for many years but as you start moving up the chain you hear its flaws.  If you love W3 (as I did ) that's awesome.  But W40 pushes the midrange a bit more forward making vocals sensational.  It also eliminates the midbass hump...evening out the bass with 2 drivers for an immediate improvement, and extends the treble by about 20%.

Do you really wanna dispute which IEM is better?

What I find amazing, there is no universal formula how dual driver or triple driver or quad driver IEM should sound.  As a result, every manufacturer has their own interpretation.  Who would have thought that IM02 going to be an analytical IEM while IM03 a more balanced bassier one.  I absolutely love sound signature of W40, but would be really curious to test drive W30 to hear how it would sound.  Though, if we use the same logic between W4/W40, perhaps W30 will follow v-shaped sound of W3 with a bass slam.  So far I haven't seen any W30 reviews, yet.

Yes, valid point.  I have had W3 so many years so I guess I am not even considering W30 a valid product.  I guess I better be careful about pre-dispisitioning it based upon some of the other changes.....all for the better.

Damn it why is it taking them too long to release w50...

Got it in the mail today - and yes, it is very clear and clean - nice recording (I haven't even got to the BluRay disc yet)

Bought these last week. Not much time for testing yet. W30:s still unopened . But at the store I thought W30 was very similar sounding to W40. Settled for the W30 since I wanted lower sensitivity than W40 to avoid hiss from my ALOs. W30 is 107dB, W40 is 118dB.

Based on what I have heard (not soundwise but through the grapevine)......yes, I would expect W30 and W40 to sound more similar than past generations but better midrange and overall refinement with W40.

I'm mainly hoping the W30 retains the W3's neutral mids vs the W4s warmer tone, but without the bloated upper bass

Ok quick impressions just out of the box. J-River 17 - iFi Nano iDSD - Alo Continental V3 - Westone W30. Music is Feist and Ben Howard.

Seems less aggressive and more laidback than UM30 Pro. I suspect W30 has a bigger soundstage, feels more holographic. Need to do some A/B to be sure. But sound is great. Haven't heard W3 our any previous Westones just the new W30, UM30 Pro which I own and W40, UM50 Pro briefly in store. I was really enjoying all the new Westones when I tried them, really difficult to chose. So I got two :beerchug:.

When closing eyes, I want to think I'm in a live concert, all instruments separated nicely. I pay attention to background music more than the vocals-if this makes sense.

Money is not a problem -well up to $700 if anything can give me this experience.  I am scared maybe that WOW factor I've been expecting for years never exists with any headphones.

A bit OT here, but considering all of the above you might want to look into the 1964ears V6-Stage at $699 (there is small discount if you order them as a universal vs. CIEM).  Your preferences sound very akin to mine and with the V6-S universal I find myself regularly thinking WOW.  I went from the TF10 to W4 to SM64 to V6-S and I'm now addicted to detail, playing songs over and over disecting the background music.  Sometimes it's like being in the studio while the aritst is recording.  And the bass impressively fills your description, too.

I'm driving them with a HRT Mircostreamer feeding a Project Ember amp.  Some more coin, but worth every penny.  OTOH, they sound pretty good out of my Clip Zip, too.  Feel free to PM me.

Nice! What's the tonal balance like? Does the bass overshadow the mids at all? How would you characterize the overall signature? Warm? Neutral? V-shaped?

You'll have to excuse me while I probe you for info; I work retail so as much as I want these, I wanna be sure they're what I want before I go spending half my rent on earphones :-P

Has anyone had problems with their w40s? Just listened to mine for the first time and both ears seem to be cutting in and out. Mainly when I move my head.

I've changed to the cable minus the iPhone remote. I don't think I've done anything wrong here?? I'm used to the cable westone were using with the um3x. As far as I'm aware its all connected properly. Attached new cable, made click sound upon insertion. I'm able to rotate the cable, is this normal? One prong has one dot, and the other has 2 small dots, do these mean anything?

I feel like a noob tongue.gif haven't had a 'premium' set of iems for a little while now.

PS. Ive had a couple drinks today so apologies if this post doesn't make sense
