What is the main problem I didn't realised before - all those DAC/AMP solutions have analog volume knob. Somehow I thought it is analog but digitally controlled and the knob will be 'endless'. Similar way as the Dragonfly works.

This is a no go for me, I'm so used to those volume up/down keys on the apple keyboards, who works so amazing with Dragonfly. Once Audinst is connected, system volume is grayed out and I have to use the knob od the device itself. So annoying... Why is that? :))

For now I will return back Audinst and stick with Dragonfly, which works/sounds amazingly, is superb small and utilises OSX system volume :)

Any other options out there?

I have the Audinst MX1, and it doesn't push the NT-6 to what it can do.  In terms of testing out how clear and detailed NT-6 gets, I recommend X5.  X5 is extremely detailed and clear for a portable player.  I've been A/Bing DX90,100, X5, Concero HP.  The NT-6 is source dependent.  Bad source, it will sound like any other iem, good source, you will notice amazing dynamic and clarity.  In terms of details, clarity, and dynamics, it's ODAC/O2, but X5 is amazingly clear and detailed, but lack a bit of dynamism.  I ordered a supposedly very transparent amp, and will try the X5's LO as it seems to have very clean LO. Hopefully, VorzAMP will do it justice by adding dynamism to it's extreme clarity.  Once you hear NT-6 on a source that will push what it can do dynamically, you'll know, it's pretty amazing.  Never heard dynamic imaging like this, it blew me away.

I'm notice the stems are a bit short. Do they cause some fit discomfort (eg wanting a tighter fit) ? My ciems are also short stemmed and this bugs me sometimes cos I want a deep fit

you mean the conducts? No, not short, just a bad angle on the pic. fit is deep and sits perfectly for the moment

here's another pic:

I just found this thread - talk about rarified air - but I find myself among peers - I think....

Here are my 4 pair - JH16FP, Tralucent 1+2, Heir Audio 8A, and 1964 Ears V8 - two custom, two universal....  paired with my DX90

(I was going to add the JVC HA-FX850, because they look like a million bucks and give all of these a run for their money....)

Sorry for the iPhone pics.... will have to break out the Nikon soon

It's funny. I don't think of myself as a basshead. I like sharp and punchy.

Got the Vorzuge Pure ii, quite impressed.  It's very transparent and matches well with everything I throw at it.  You can amp it off the HPO, and it keeps the signal integrity.  John, I recommend this amp, to what portable devices you are using, it will improve the sonic characteristics, and with the NT6, it's very obvious.   By the way, Vorz is a company from Stuttgart, Germany.  I personally think with a good amp, your setup can compete with high-end portables as I think it's the amp section what really matters.  Why not get a quality amp for a DAP than spend 2.5k on something you may still want to amp better?  I like the amp section on the DX100 so I compared to Vorz, and DX100's amp section is good, and as far as the others... Not so good.

Whoa. Tried DX90, X5, and AK240 today. All of which impressed me a lot.

In terms of quality, I guess it follows the pricing.

X5<DX90<AK240

I guess it's not too fair cause AK240 costs +2K, but still. All of them worked really well with iems. Also, I noticed that SE846 isn't affected by the 22ohm OI of AK100(original)
