I am sure nick and the kicked da' Canned Crew will fill you in on some cans that ain't as bass centric.

Doesn't jazz require great quality bass as well as mids??? Think it can pass with decent treble, no???

I could spend up to 300, but would much rather spend 50.  So I would happily spend 200, and begrudgingly spend 300. Although its just a hundred bucks difference, Im likely going to pick up the cheapest schiit stack along with whatever I buy and it starts to add up, especially for a poor graduate student such as myself. (until now I really only used IEMs because I mostly listen to music when I'm commuting and I have a set of powered speakers at home, so I don't have an amp, and have been wanting a dac for a while now.)

Plus I need to buy a cheap line filter as the power going to my speakers is muy dirty, just been lazy about doing something about it. Very tired of listening to the radio when I use them, and have narrowed it down to the power. I thought it might have just been the amplifier picking things up because of poor shielding but when I moved the amplified speaker to an outlet near the kitchen, a different circuit, there was no noise or interference at all. So im thinking the wiring for the power is picking up RFI signals, if thats possible.

Generally higher quality bass and mids are preferred over treble for jazz, but it does depend on what you're listening to. I Know for myself that the majority of what I listen to wont go passed like 6-7kHz, reaching more towards the high mids.

You could find a pair of AKG 240DF's in good shape for that money and have change left over.

They stopped making the 600 ohm ones in 2006 or so right? Might be tough to find one in that good of shape, unless the pads are replaceable then it wouldn't be a huge issue. However, a separate issue is I'll likely be getting the magni, and I'm hesitant that it will adequately power 600 ohms and the DFs have a pretty low sensitivity. However, I'm certainly not in a rush so I'll keep my eye out for a pair.

Back to something hyped, considering you seem to have experience modding headphones, or atleast know more than the basics that I do, what do you think of getting a pair of modded fostex t50rp, or doing it myself. I'd never done it but I tend to be fairly capable with that kind of stuff. Is something like the ZMF modded t50rp all hype? I'm skeptical to shell out any sort of money for a "commercially" made mod of something.

NickN is currently your man for T50 mods. I am currently in the T20 zone and quite like them except for the awful pillow pads. I do see another pair of T50;s in my future soon. They are hard to go wrong with.

For pure cheap and to tide yourself over. You may want to spend a whole 30 bucks on a pair of tascam TH02's. With a felt disk or piece of clear porous surgical tape over the centre of the grills they are quite acceptable. Super easy to drive. Lousy pads. But with that little mod to tone down the shrill peaks they are very easy to listen to.

With further modding they become exceptional.

If you have a dealer anywhere nearby it might be worth it to have a quick listen.

I'm just going to leave this here. I feel like more people need to see this GIF.

Haven't really followed the NBA for a quick minute tbh, so that gif/ reference lost me a bit. Think this one is mo' fitting.

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
Can someone dumb it down for me and explain what ekey boi is referencing to??? LMAO DEAD SERIOUS.

I'm not positive what he is referencing, but that gif he posted looks like a NUT tap. Or just a horrible flop, or a combo of the two.

Lol, I'm referencing to the greatness of KG. That cobra-like delivery of the nut tap, and the quick retraction of the hand was perfection. I crack up everytime I watch it.

I think you're a few years late to witness the greatness of KG ;).

On a side note, ATH a900x for about 105 bucks, should I just call it a day? Seems like a good deal.

Oh, I'm a die-hard Celtics fan. I cried when Pierce and KG got traded. And I just watched Rondo drp 18 dimes on Detroit.

No clue about the ATh though :)

Sad to hear, Im on the fence about Rondo, its great if he can get 20 dimes a game, but the team needs a bit more than that. Looking for a pair of closed back cans, mostly for jazz, cheapest ive seen the 900x is like 175 before.

just a fast drop in here saw some excellent hype.

It looks like his teeth didn't fall out though.
