I could spend up to 300, but would much rather spend 50. So I would happily spend 200, and begrudgingly spend 300. Although its just a hundred bucks difference, Im likely going to pick up the cheapest schiit stack along with whatever I buy and it starts to add up, especially for a poor graduate student such as myself. (until now I really only used IEMs because I mostly listen to music when I'm commuting and I have a set of powered speakers at home, so I don't have an amp, and have been wanting a dac for a while now.)
Plus I need to buy a cheap line filter as the power going to my speakers is muy dirty, just been lazy about doing something about it. Very tired of listening to the radio when I use them, and have narrowed it down to the power. I thought it might have just been the amplifier picking things up because of poor shielding but when I moved the amplified speaker to an outlet near the kitchen, a different circuit, there was no noise or interference at all. So im thinking the wiring for the power is picking up RFI signals, if thats possible.
Generally higher quality bass and mids are preferred over treble for jazz, but it does depend on what you're listening to. I Know for myself that the majority of what I listen to wont go passed like 6-7kHz, reaching more towards the high mids.
You could find a pair of AKG 240DF's in good shape for that money and have change left over.
