Pros: Glorious Sound, Understated Looks, Pugnacious Build Quality, Aura of Apricity

Cons: We are unworthy, Routine Ephiphany Dulls its Brilliance, Low Price Biases Buyer

Everyone has "that" song.  The song that helped define their life, that they could easily divide their life in half without batting an eye - before the song and after the song.  The song itself might not even be particularly memorable - it could have just been playing during a life-altering moment and be inextricably linked to it in one's mind for eternity.  It could signify a coming of age or a midlife crisis.  A person could be doing anything - performing heart surgery or diffusing a bomb - and when that song comes on nothing else exists but the song and maybe an air guitar that spontaneously generated in their hands.

This is something really unique to music.  While you may have an art afficionado or literature buff here and there similarly affected by a particular painting or limerick, music - while it affects everyone differently, has a certain universal appeal that is truly unique.  I always thought this phenomenon was limited to the source material - give me the song and its my jam, whether I hear it on a pair of laptop speakers or a Marshall stack.  But then I came across something truly extraordinary - a device for musical playback that could make every song - well, "that" song.

Philosiphy

$2.  It sure is a lot of money as a child, when candy is the only currency that matters and money can get it.  For adults, not so much.  It can hardly buy a cup of coffee.  Yet for $2 (shipped, via Amazon Prime) you can have a box of awesome delivered to your door.

The Coby CVH47 may not look like much.  Its form-after-function utilitarian styling leaves one wanting in today's age of flash-in-the-pan glitz-and-glamour razzmatazz showboating artsy-fartsy namby-pamby luxury gear.  Lightweight plastic and gently curved metal was once all a man could ask for in a generation of understated elegance.  Nowadays if it isn't bedazzled with Swarovski crystals and swaddled in velvet it is not worth coveting.  The Coby's truly herald from a different age, a time where you got by with hard work, sweat and tears.  Ever since Abraham Lincoln put a stop to all that, this is a value that has been lost to subsequent generations.  Coby hearkens back to a lost chapter in our history when things weren't so darn complicated.  Remotes didn't have so many buttons because you had to walk up to the TV and there were only 4 channels, and there was no cereal "aisle" with hundreds of cartoon animals peddling fluorescent glow-in-the-dark sugar cubes to kids because milk hadn't been invented yet.  Coby looks back at this time wistfully and says "what would their headphone sound like?"  If this time makes you wistful and nostalgic, grow up - emotions are meant to be bottled up.  But these headphones may be right for you.  Think about a time without synonyms-  because there was only one word for everything.  A time of simplicity - when everything could be cured with an aspirin and a stiff one - including ED.  Shouldn't your headphones too?

Technolgic

Coby's CVH47 work scientifically.  From fully coated dynamic drivers to sound waves that propagate and form "audio", these are state-of-the-art.  If Thomas Edison had known just what he was foreshadowing when he invented the light bulb, he probably would have invented the CVH47 instead.  I wrote Coby quite a few times and have never heard anything back, so I suppose frequency response is never.  Distortion is well below the threshold of information I'm capable of finding through the internet.  But enough of the numbers - how does it sound?

Graph.  Flat! Extension.

Soundings

There are few sounds that have ever graced my ears - a newborn kitten sneezing, a muted bell sounding on a light tower over the rise of a tempestuous sea lapping up against beleaguered banks - that ever really stick with you, that encapsulate those little things in life that happen then are gone and yet remain.  With the Coby CVH47, every note echoes in your subconscious long after its superb decay has faded out.  The devlish rhythms serrate your soul and shock your senses like the scent of rain on long-barren earth.  Who can resist the wiles of such a headphone?  It is as the unlisted instrument in every piece it plays.  It is the fifth Beatle and the third Simon and Garfunkel.  It does not impart its own signature on the music that passes through it yet the imprint it leaves is indelible.  It is subtle as a witty turn-of-phrase and bombastic as a punk rock anthem.  It is the big bang and water trickling over rocks, a shout and and echo, a sigh and a triumphant rebel yell.  It obliterates all in its path while leaving them untouched.  In short - it is everything and it is nothing, an antilogy wrapped in an allegory couched in a simile.  It gets so wrapped up with one's emotional being that they are stricken with acute alexithymia, and any halfhearted attempt at description degrades it.  While listening to the CVH47 I was sometimes so overcome that I had to retire to my outdoor Japanese rock garden to contemplate life while I brushed my ponytail and whispered to myself.  That it had this effect is truly astonishing, as I live in a high rise and am bald.

Into the Sunset

So where does Coby go from here?  How does one improve on what amounts to perfection?  Coby CEO Young Dong has a few ideas.  "For one, we need to do kickstarter.  Another area of improvement is DSD.  HRTF.  Sean Olive."  Coby must also play the "lifestyle" card if it wants to compete with the likes of Beats and Mr Speakers.  A high-profile posthumous endorsement deal with Michael Jackson is imminent if the rumours are to be believed.  Respected producers like Phil Spector are also starting to sing the CVH47's praises.

In light of the impeccable performance and unseemly value of this product, I feel behooved to bestow upon it an award of such rarity that it has never before been given.  I speak of course, about the "double rainbow during a solar eclipse" award.  The Coby CVH47 has earned a vaunted spot in the pantheon of hi-fi, and will not be displaced until the fact that I must write regular articles that portray this hobby as moving ever forward lest I lose my precarious niche journalism job forces my hand.

Financial/moral Considerations - I stole the $2 to buy these headphones from a blind homeless man

Reads like the typical fan-boy review of ANY new headphone. All that's missing is the aftermath feeding frenzy where owned HPs all of the sudden wind up in the "For Sale" forum in expectation of the next Holy Grail.

Oh, the sickness of it all, and no vaccine to be had.

But for as for me, if it is as how shotgunshane has reviewed as the sound being better than the IE800, heck i'd even pay 2x for what the Rocket is selling for right now :D

I can't offer my opinion as to comparisons of products on head-fi but I have a VAST assortment of IEMs including the IE800 and I have to say that with a proper headphone amp ROCKETS really do sound incredible. Heck even out of just an iPhone they sound awesome. I designed them to take down giants... They are not a one trick pony. The key is truly in the simplicity. They make beautiful sound. You know one driver is really enough...

I got the sarcasm of the review, and it was dead on target. My blurb was about how similar it read to the usual hysterical reviews.

^ nuff said MARTIN LOGAN 90s GET HYPED!!! :deadhorse:

Quote: http://www.head-fi.org/t/633514/martin-logan-mikros-90-on-ear-headphones/930#post_10244726

Initial impressions of these Martin Logans was WOW!!! COLOR ME IMPRESSED!!!

What immediately jumped out at me was the lushness and sweetness of the mids and along with the crazy nice extension of the treble. For anyone that has heard/ read-up on the ATH ES700s you will know that I along with many ES700s owners praise their sweet forward and lush mids to no end. Welp not only is the mids of these Logans exactly as lush as that of the ES700s but its treble is just as lush as well. SWEET BABY JESUS the mids and treble of these are soooo nice that even that hyperbole is an under statement!!! Excuse me while I compose myself, what I mean by sweet is that these Logans will get your head bobbing (contemplating)/ feet tapping (working out) due to all the nuances and micro details they render. Therefore not only are they easy on the wallet due to their low price but is beneficial for the well being of your mind, body and soul. These Logan is akin to something like a flour sifter in which meticulous renders all the finest aspects of the music right down to the smallest micro details and presents them to you in a ever so refined fashion yet without being overly dry, dull, lifeless, boring, or analytical.

Also for anyone that has owned/ heard the Beyer DT-250 you will know what I am talking about. The DT-250s have a really clear, sweet, easy on the ears non fatiguing sound that is really engaging albeit hard as hell to drive due to the 250 ohm impedance. You can literally listen to those DT-250 all day long without listen fatigue and the same could be said about these Logans, but even more so because they not only sound great even on low volumes but is MUCH MUCH easier to drive as well. Therefore not only do they have that amazing mid range lushness/ sweetness as those ES700s but is sweet sounding across the entire spectrum. It bests the Beyer DT-250s not only because these Logans sound even more 3D, is faster, along with bucket loads of crazy high resolution micro details with amazing clarity but they sound more realistic in their musical rendition to boot. The instrument and micro rendering on these Logans is so realistic sounding that it is surreal and that is no over statement. Bar none their realism is the best I heard from ALL my headphones as well as iems to date, which even bests that of the VSonic GR07 BEs natural/ organic presentation, but the GR07 BE is still better textured overall.

So here's the rub, the bass. Bass quantity is pretty similar to the ES700s, whereas it is kinda "soft" hitting/ sounding in the ES700s, the bass of these Logans is snappy, tight, and quick. Therefore it MIGHT sound anemic/ thin as vlenbo posted but it is really not that bad. In fact hip hop sounds amazing with these despite the lack of quantity. Even the sub bass (yes they do have sub bass presence) of these Logans extends pretty deep, but instead of the visceral throaty deep type that is felt not heard, when done right by good audiophile basshead iems/ cans why of course, they are more of a hard snap sounding type, similar to someone snapping their fingers really loud. Therefore, what it lacks in quantity is made up for in quality and the best way to put it is this.....

Logan 90s bass visualized. Lean and mean, can kick yo' arse without notice

vs.

Audiophile bass cans/iems. Boosted and roided up, muskals oh so sexcee, but for looks only. : P

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
Sawee LL had to do that to ya'. ALL <333s :)

You got me on blocked or something??? LMAO It's your loss cuz you're missing out on my glorious tom_trollery. ;)

Anywho those QB2s were good but the Sony MH1Cs still bests them in overall refinement. Those QB2s still gives off that typical generic consumer grade sounding/ vibe, despite technically they are "better" esp. in the treble extension than the MH1Cs. BUT the more smooth siggy of the Sonys just SOUNDS more higher end, hence mo' refined, it's more of a gut/ visceral feeling which you graph folks might not ever get/ understand. It is what it is though.

Anywho x2 am glad that you jumped on these Logans and that soon your beloved Rin might be graphing these in the near future??? If so great, if not oh well, no biggie. But i hope he comes up with some sonic/ comfort mods as well cuz he seems to he pretty good in that department as well.

Anywho X3, Rin might be getting my set of VSonic VSD1 LE (Limited Editions) in to graph from Unity's ASG 2 tour, so don't show them any mercy meng. But please be gentle with them during the knifing process. haha

I have been holding back on this for a month or so, because I feel some may feel strongly against what I will say.

The K10 sounds better than the Roxannes.

I have done my testing, I have also asked my friends (who oddly have the same ear shape and therefore can listen to the K10s and Roxannes side-by-side) to test both. All of us have varying tastes in music and listen to different parts of music. One listens to how it sounds and how it replicates sound, one listens to metal and loves clarity in his recordings, and the other loves his guitars and drums. All of them agree on the Kaiser 10 being a one over the Roxanne.

I honestly had put my chips behind the Roxannes, but after listening to them I felt they slightly underwhelmed. I said to myself, give it time, it will grow on you... But unfortunately the K10 has proven itself to be the victor for me. It may depend on your ears and your taste, but for me, the reigning champion is the Kaiser 10. Dynamically, musically, vocally, our general consensus is, Noble has done something amazing with this CIEM.

I will be preparing my full review in a few days/weeks, along with some photos.

All hail the king, Kaiser 10!

LOL I can see alot of ppl canceling their roxanne orders...lol

^ And the Roxannes barely got to the hands of most of their customers yet due to numerous issues it seems. LMAO HYPE CHECKED!!!

I don't get your point, but I do get your rant lol.

I was wary about the 90's being FOTM as well. But I've read enough about them from people that I trust that I am 99.99% sure that they are the real deal.

And I have the M500's, so I know that they are the real deal. That doesn't mean that newer and debate-ably better stuff won't come out (such as P7's, HP50's, ON1's etc) which takes the focus away from the M500's. But that also doesn't mean that the M500's suddenly become "not great".

Maybe you just don't like reading about new high quality stuff that comes out?

^ Those M500s should be really good sounding based on what i have gathered from reading the threads here, i have owned the M200s myself and they are pretty damn amazing for their low price, but sadly it just wasn't my ideal sound siggy due to their bass presentation. For $125 i paid for them they are a damn good deal.

The whole Flavor Of The Month mentality is a bunch of bollocks cuz EVERYTHING can be seen/labeled as so cuz like my OP post on this thread stated most if not ALL new gears attract a lot of attention upon initial release cuz peps loves new stuff. In fact that Vali amp you liked so much can also be relegated as being "FOTM" cuz the buzz/ interest went SUPER NOVA upon release but it is slowly dying down of late despite it is probably an amazing product. There will always be new products that will come down the pipeline that will steal all the previous interest of an "older" product and it comes and goes FAST in this hobby these days.

Only tyme can tell how a said gear will stand up to the task due to its innate technical abilities, and if there is a sudden drop in interest it doesn't mean they are crap sounding/ under performing FOTMs. People just have moved on to the new thing which may or may not be "better" but hey who doesn't like new shiny things. But there is indeed LOTS of over-hyped gears that performs average at best but for some strange reasons gets A LOT of unwarranted hype and there ya' go, a true FOTM HYPE TRAIN takes off to Mars, a.k.a Xiaomi Pistons hype of late.

/rant

edit: For me these Logan 90s are even more significant than those MH1/Cs in pushing the price to performance envelope. But i am sure you see those MH1Cs as FOTM as well i bet. ;)
