My first two weeks of "quality-headphone-use" (Beyer DT250) - Page 2

Go forth and listen! Hopefully someday. I don't have a car at college and there is nowhere in my hometown of Richmond, Virginia where you can get any kind of hi-quality headphones except Senns.

My view on Beyer headphones is that they're suitable for certain needs. Generally Beyer make really good closed headphones (IMHO), but the difference between the 250, the 770 and the 831 is pretty huge.

If you don't need/like/want closed headphones, there are many other alternatives out there - but the 831s are considered one of the best "affordable" closed headphones.
Having said that, I find them to be too revealing and I enjoy the 250s more (I've said this many times, I'm sure people are getting sick of reading it )
On the other hand, I like the 770s for some rock (but not all) - sometimes they have too much bass, sometimes they have just the right amount of head-shaking bass (you have to hear them to believe it).

I can understand why some people would dislike the 831s and the 770s, but the 250s are one of my favourite headphones for all-round listening.

Snufkin, does DT831 have bigger soundstage than DT250 or is it the same?

Actually, I don't think the DT250/80 and /250 sound very similar - I'd rather say they sound quite different, more like a K240M compared to a K501. I'd only chose the 80-Ohm-version over the DT250/250 for portable use because of better efficiency. To my ears the DT250/80 already sounds fairly enjoyable, but the DT250/250 does it better. Nevertheless I still like the DT531 best, because I prefer my sound open. On the other hand, it's always nice to have a few other choices at hand. I don't listen to the K501 a lot, anymore, but sometimes it's still nice. And I fear, when I have to part from my test samples I'll have to buy at least the DT990Pro, probably also the DT250/250 and maybe the DT931, too, which I haven't heard yet - but I have the strong suspicion that I'll like it. And then I'll most probably have to buy a HP890, because I really liked that test unit, too. Oh, yes, suffering from headphone collectitis is really a bad habit - in my case it was already coupled with spare unit reservitis once or twice. And now I've even caught a mild ampitis, too. I guess, I could cut&paste that to another recent popular and most amusing thread (More puns, DustyChalk! ) in this forum... Btw.: Would getting the Sugden HeadMaster be a good idea for me? I'm not sure, whether it'll be nice with all of my headphones - but who knows, maybe it even makes the SR80 more enjoyable.

Uhm, yes, greetings from Munich as usual!

Manfred / lini

P.S.: I think I'd find it most disturbing, if I detected golden ears on my club...
