Best classic rock setup for under $600?

I listen to bowie/stones/m83/floyd/brian eno. I read a good setup for me would be the akg 601 and a matrix m-stage. I like that they are comfy, and have good soundstage. Anyone recommend something better? Is bass weak on these? Thanks.

What sources will the headphone & amp be plugged into?

You might consider getting a Fiio X3 ($200) to connect to the Matrix M-stage, should provide better audio quality to the M-Stage, compared to the iPhone.

From my understanding, the AKG K6XXX series has more bass then the AKG K7XX series, but you should double check on that.

Amplifier wise, I would just get the Schiit Magni, $99, can easily drive the 120-Ohm AKG K6XX series.

Have you checked out then new AKG K612 Pro headphones?

Fiio x3 or dragonfirefly to a project sunrise amp.  The sunrise should come stock with a voskhod 12ax7 tube which is perfect for classic rock.
