Hello, DigitalFreak -

It's been more than two weeks since your last post in this thread. I, for one, am anxious to hear your thoughts on the AK120.

Regards,

Brian

Well, I didn't bother posting any impressions on this thread because I thought nobody would be interested. I brought the AK120 based on recommendations from a couple of friends. I trust their ears and I know they don't over embellish their findings. I'll be posting up a more involved final impressions video in the next few weeks on my YouTube channel so stay tuned. The quick of it thus far though, I got the AK120 loaded up and I was out the door in under 20 minutes. That wasn't the case for the DX50. On the AK120 I've had some file sorting issues on 4 albums but I quickly fixed it all with some quick retagging. Besides that no real problems with the AK120 and she seems to be running just fine. Sonically, it outdoes my CLAS/ALO RX MKIII-B, Studio V and the DX50 doesn't even come close to it. Anyone who says the DX50 is comparable to the AK120 sonically is over embellishing in my opinion. The only quibble I have against the AK120 thus far is I wish the price tag was lower.

This and I think the price have people rationalizing it performance to less than it is. It's got a couple of competitors that one may or may not prefer sonically but none are as sorted or easy to use and carry. The AK120 is an antithesis to this thread IMO unless you think price fit the picture.

If you're saying they've got the UI of the AK120 working nicely, I'm really glad to hear it - that's certainly unusual in today's DAPs - but I'm still waiting for the less expensive, DSD-capable, Sony PCM-D100 recorder/player, which actually has Line Out (both optical and analog), but isn't nearly as small, lightweight, and attractive as the AK100.

Wow that is impressive if you think it outdoes your CLAS,ALO RX MKII rig.... Looks like its time to sell those and upgrade lol ;).... My Studio V will be going bye-bye sometime next week. Will most likely hold onto the Rocoo BA for its sound quality and portability for when I want to go light. My Triad rig is up for grabs. Would be nice upgrade ;)....

And now you just need to upgrade to the Tera Player and experience audio bliss in a screenless DAP that's worth over $2000.

No he just needs to get his AK120 modded to the S mod and it will kill anything he's heard thus far :P. Tera is good but it's not that good ;).

Me sell the CLAS?!?!?!?! That's my desktop DAC dude, a big negative on that. For whatever reason, the Paradox sounds better on the CLAS rig while with everything else that's not the case.

Since everyone is curious here's my current setup, Ultimate Ears Reference Monitor paired with the AK120. The AK120 has been surprisingly trouble free for me.

It really is nice to see someone who is content with their DAP's UI.  Congratulations!

I'm quite happy with my DAP UI....and that includes my perfectly functioning DX50
